We can't really be sure why American Mutoscope & Biograph felt the need to make a film about workers leaving a factory eight years after the Lumiere's had chosen the exact same scenario for the subject of one of their very first films. This grainy film lacks any kind of detail as it shows a large number of workers of a manufacturing company pass the camera - which is positioned at an angle to the factory rather than face-on as in the Lumiere film - as they presumably leave for their lunch break, nd so is of minimal interest. A film like this can't even have been of much interest to the audiences of 1903 (unless they happened to work at the Hope Webbing Company in Pawtucket, RI).
