Objective founder departs for film career

Objective founder departs for film career
Co-founder of UK production company behind Peep Show and Fresh Meat to target horror film-making.

Objective ProductionsMichael Vine has stepped down as a director of the company he co-founded to concentrate on a career in movie production.

Vine, who set up the All3Media-owned indie alongside Andrew O’Connor in 1996, told Screen’s sister magazine Broadcast that although it was “emotional” to leave Objective, it was the right time to step aside.

“I leave it in the hands of Andrew Newman. When he came here [in 2009] I had to pinch myself because working with such a talent was a privilege,” said Vine.

“I think things will only get better under Discovery and Liberty. To be owned by people sympathetic to what you do is a real advantage, as opposed to faceless men of the city.”

Vine’s first feature film, western/horror hybrid Blood Moon, was premiered at Film4 FrightFest in August. Vine produced

International Football: England v Denmark

7.30pm, ITV

International friendlies can seem like a distraction at the best of times, let alone when domestic and European competitions are reaching their sharp ends. Yet for Roy Hodgson this looks a key fixture - one of only four before the World Cup begins in June, and against one of the strongest teams not to qualify for the tournament. Denmark's squad features plenty of familiar faces, including Spurs star Christian Eriksen and much-derided Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner. Gwilym Mumford

‘Batman Vs Superman’ Costume Designer Talks Wonder Woman

Superhero costume designer extraordinaire Michael Wilkinson has begun whipping up a Wonder Woman frenzy with snippings about her costume and – you can all breathe a sigh of relief – it looks like it’s going to be “gladiator style”.

“You just have to look at the gladiators from ancient Rome – they did their thing in little loincloths, a spear and a shield” he said.

Speaking about the “thrilling and scary” design process, Wilkinson explained that he had conducted a large amount of research into Wonder Woman’s wardrobe so far, before coming up with a new take on the outfit that’s relevant for today. “It’s so important to get her right,” he explained.

Wilkinson, whose sartorial skills won him an Oscar nomination for The Real Hustle, also designed the new Batsuit and is tweaking Superman’s outfit for the forthcoming Batman Vs Superman, which sees Gal Gadot taking on the role of Wonder Woman.

How did the Being Human ending compare to past finales?

Feature Caroline Preece 14 Mar 2013 - 07:00

Caroline revisits each of the Being Human series finales and finds out what they tell us about the show's evolution...

This feature contains spoilers.

If there’s one thing (and we all know there were many) that Being Human did brilliantly, it was series finales. With such a short run each year, there was often the perfect build-up to explosive conclusions that always brought the best elements of the show to the forefront.

Now that we know for sure that there’ll be no more Being Human series finales, why don’t we take one last look back at the brilliant episodes we were given over its five year run? We had Old Ones, romance, dastardly villains and episodes of The Real Hustle, but how did they compare to each other and what can they tell us about the evolution of the show?

Being Human series 5 episode 1 review: The Trinity

Review Caroline Preece Feb 3, 2013

A new trinity, a new villain, and a brand new series of Being Human. Here's Caroline's review of episode one...

This review contains spoilers. Read our spoiler-free review, here.

5.1 The Trinity

There’s a big shake-up in the Being Human cast this year, as we all know, and the biggest test for this fifth series premiere was always going to be proving that the current trio, Hal, Tom and Alex, could live up to the legacy left by Mitchell, George and Annie. We had a soft reboot last season, but some fans seemed far from won over, so we had to wait and see what Toby Whithouse and his writers would be able to do with an entirely new supernatural trinity living in Honolulu Heights.

Just from watching this premiere, the signs are good, but it’s also clear that this incarnation of Being Human isn

Exclusive: Jason Mewes & Roxanne Pallett to Lead UK Horror Devil’s Tower

Here’s a rather nice exclusive to start the week as we can announce that Jason Mewes and Roxanne Pallett are to co-lead the forthcoming horror film, Devil’s Tower, currently shooting in Derbyshire.

You’ll know Mewes from his brilliant work in Kevin Smith’s films from the View Askewniverse and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and seeing him take a leading role in a British movie is a very interesting move.

Pallett has been a long-standing star of Emmerdale, and most recently appeared in the BBC’s Waterloo Road, and this should be a great role for her to break through on the big screen.

Starring alongside them will be the Tony Award-winning Frances Ruffelle (Les Misérables), Jessica Jane Clement (The Real Hustle), Peter Barrett (UFO, Jack Falls), Jazz Lintott (UFO, Airborne), and Emma Buckley (How to Stop Being a Loser), in her first principal role.

Award-winning

'Being Human' exec producer Toby Whithouse talks about 'The Graveyard Shift'
Just when you think you know a guy, he turns up in mid-19th century England with a mustache, no shirt on, and human blood running from his chin to his waistline. This week’s episode of Being Human certainly gave us a glimpse at the old, non-reformed vampire Hal (Damien Molony) and it wasn’t pretty. Oh, and we also learned that he’s an Old One—that sect of super ancient, super nasty bloodsuckers whom everyone fears. Not exactly the kind of monster you’d want taking care of a baby, especially the savior of the world. Below,

The Real Hustle – review

Not even an ex-member of Boyzone makes Sam Wollaston fall for a ridiculous conman show

Ah, excellent, The Real Hustle (BBC3), surely one of the most ridiculous programmes ever. We seem to be in Paisley, Scotland, and the Real Hustlers are joined by Shane Lynch, dressed as a tramp (not much disguise needed) as their celebrity helper. The mark is a lad coming out of a bureau de change. With nearly £500! Maybe that's normal in Paisley. Actually, it turns out he's got over a grand on him, in cash.

Anyway, he's got a lot more money than sense, because he allows himself to be led off to a special van, where two of the team pretend to inspect his money using a special machine. And then he lets himself get led off by Shane and someone else, into a building, where other members of a team are pretending to be

TV review: Reel History of Britain; How Facebook Changed the World; The Real Hustle

Was it really such a great idea to let Melyvyn Bragg and his less-than-magnificent travelling cinema loose on Britain?

The summer television doldrums are over. There's some excellent stuff around, especially drama (I'm thinking Appropriate Adult, The Field of Blood). But last night wasn't a great one, and I struggled to find anything very interesting to watch.

Reel History of Britain (BBC2) was probably the pick. Melvyn Bragg has got hold of this old bus that is also a cinema, and he's taking it around the country, showing archive footage of 20th-century events to the people who experienced them. This first episode is about Britain's wartime evacuees, and we're in Torquay because that was a place people were evacuated to.

So a lovely old lady called Kitty, who was an evacuee back in the day, turns up and watches a film of some other children being evacuated. Kitty is from
