The closest Grady Sutton ever came to getting married.
planktonrules18 October 2021
The plot for "Bridal Bail" certainly is unusual. June and Charlie (June Brewster and George Lewis) want to marry, but June's mother inexplicably wants her to marry the most obnoxious and unlikable cop you could imagine. So, they run away to get married...taking their friends Grady and Carol (Grady Sutton and Carol Tevis) with them. However, another cop stops them for speeding and this is a problem since the couple had already agreed to get married as a publicity stunt at a local movie theater. But because they are in jail, they cannot get married....and so Carol and Grady get married instead. No, the pair are NOT wanting to be married but they plan on going over the border into Mexico to get a quickie divorce! But naturally many problems develop!

This is far from the most logical films I've ever seen...as you can tell by reading the plot above. It also made no sense when the obnoxious cop went into Mexico and started threatening everyone...as if he had jurisdiction in Mexico. But, it's still a pleasant and diverting short....though it's easy to see why Tevis and Brewster never became big-time actresses with films like these and the others I've seen.

Here goes the bride...with the wrong groom.

Warning: Spoilers
Confusing mess of a two reeler has effeminate Grady Sutton forced to marry June Brewster, the girlfriend of his girlfriend (Carol Tevis) who somehow ends up with Brewster's fiancee (George J. Lewis) in prison, forcing Brewster and Sutton to quickly marry to get contest money to bail them out. They plan to get a quickie annulment so the real lovers can be wed. Frustrating, violent and just plain weird, this features an annoying Tevis squeaking like Betty Boop overdosed on helium. I've seen some bad shorts in my time, but never one so annoyingly unfunny that I had to take an aspirin during my viewing of it to avoid a bad comedy migraine.

Warning: Spoilers
Of the 4 film shorts of the "Blondes and Redheads" series I've seen thus far, this is clearly the funniest, if not always the most coherent. ..........It begins with June(the supposed redhead), Carol(the Betty Boop-voiced petite ditzy blonde), Dot Farley, as June's mother, and patrolman Gus(Matt McHugh), as a husband hopeful for June, are having a meal. Gus is telling some stories which he and Dot thinks are funny, but June and Carol stick up their noses at. Gus is mother Dot's favorite husband material for June, but June is not impressed, she only having eyes for handsome Charlie(George Lewis), who soon arrives with his friend Grady, who happens to be Carol's boyfriend. Charlie and Grady arrange to go to a movie with June and Carol at the Border Palace Theater(very close to the Mexican border). Gus says ''Let them go, this will be the last time Charlie will go out with June"............ Unfortunately, on the way, a cop catches Charlie speeding, and takes them to police headquarters. The police chief says Charlie will have to spend some time in jail, with a $50. Bail, which the group doesn't have. Grady tells Carol to try to talk the chief out of it. She tells him that Charlie and June are running away from June's mother, who wants to make June marry a dull policeman. The chief takes exception to the description of the policeman as being dull, and sentences Carol to jail for insulting the law........... Earlier, the 4 had seen a poster offering a $100. Reward to a couple to get married before the audience in the Border theater. June suggests that she marry Grady in the theater to win the $100. So that they can get Charlie out of jail, then they can get a quick divorce or annulment just across the border, in Mexico, so that June can marry Charlie. They are married, and when they exit from the theater, they are surprised to be met by Charlie and Carol with a policeman, who offers to exchange Charlie for Grady so that Charlie and June can get married. But, Grady kicks the cop in the rear, and points to Charlie as the culprit. The angry cop withdraws his offer and takes Charlie and Carol back toward the jail. ............June and Grady go to the Mexican divorce hotel, where the manager(Harry Semels) tells them that they first have to rent a room to establish residence, and that he will call a judge and send him to their room. They feel rather awkward in their room, as a supposed couple. For some reason, they go into the next room. Meanwhile, Charlie and Carol sneak into their room, hiding from the cop. The judge(Sam Appel) arrives and assumes they are the couple he is to divorce. When he discovers that they aren't married, he tells them to leave. On their way out, they meet Charlie and Carol. Charlie says now he and June can get married. The 4 return to the room where the confused judge still is. Charlie tells the judge that he and June want him to marry them. But Grady hits Charlie on the head, flooring him, and tells the judge that he and June want a divorce. To make a longer story short, the 4 keep the judge confused as to who he's supposed to divorce and who to marry, while the 4 do some bad things to each other. To add to the confusion, June's mother arrives with Gus. She chases June around, trying to get the judge to marry her to Gus...........Finally, the judge officially divorces Grady and June. The 4 plus the judge pile into a car, and while it takes off, the judge is having Charlie and June say their wedding vows. Poor Gus gets on his motorcycle to chase them, but soon his cycle sinks in a deep mudpuddle, to end the film. ..........See it for free at You Tube!
