6 Women of Color in Supporting Roles Who Deserve to Star on Their Own Shows

13 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

TV trends come and go, but who would’ve thought that, with all the focus on inclusion in the past few years, there would now be an uptick of, as IndieWire’s Michael Schneider puts it, “white dudes in crisis” on TV?

To fill the diversity void, the networks have added actors of color to supporting roles. It’s heartening to see that this has created a more realistic picture on TV of what the world looks like, such as the marriage between Zach Braff’s and Tiya Sircar’s characters on “Alex Inc.” representing the growing number of mixed-race marriages in America. Unfortunately, it’s also disappointing to see so many of these favorite actresses get shunted from one supporting role to the next.

Tom Cruise does insane stunts in new featurette for The Mummy

8 May 2017 2:30 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

You don’t have to be a Hollywood insider to know that there are few A-list actors as dedicated to doing their own stunts as Tom Cruise. Between scaling the Burj Khalifa in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, hanging off of the side of a flying airplane in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and racing a car through the streets in Jack Reacher, Cruise has developed a reputation for not being afraid to get his hands dirty.

Despite now being well into his 50s, the actor’s upcoming Universal Monsters universe kick-off film, The Mummy, is just as filled to the brim with stunts as the rest of his action filmography. Following last week’s “Meet the Mummy” video, Syfy Wire has released a behind-the-scenes featurette highlighting some of the tricky stunts Cruise tackles for the movie. Check out “the only actor in the world who could find their frame mid-air, three times” down below… »

First UK Trailer for 'My Name Is Lenny' About a Bare-Knuckle Fighter

28 April 2017 6:52 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"I know what I'm gunna do then: I'm gunna knock him spark out, and be back in here for lunch." Lionsgate UK has released an official trailer for My Name Is Lenny, telling the life story of famous bare-knuckle fighter Lenny McLean, who was the first to earn the iconic nickname "the Guv'nor". Josh Helman (seen in X-Men: Apocalypse, Mad Max: Fury Road, Jack Reacher) plays McLean, and the cast includes Chanel Cresswell, Nick Moran, John Hurt, Michael Bisping, Charley Palmer Rothwell, George Russo, and Rita Tushingham. This looks like an entertaining "sports" movie, following in the footsteps of films like Bronson and Snatch. It might also play well as a double feature with Chuck. This trailer is worth a look. Here's the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Ron Scalpello's My Name Is Lenny, direct from YouTube: Explosive & brutal, My Name Is Lenny is based on the true story »

‘The Exception’ Trailer: Jai Courtney Stars in a Nazi Love Story

25 April 2017 1:30 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Maybe if I’d seen the Starz show Spartacus: War of the Damned, I’d be on board the Jai Courtney train. But aside from a halfway decent performance in the first Jack Reacher movie and the weirdness of his Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad, I haven’t seen much from the guy that warrants his level of stardom. But maybe he’s […]

Rosamund Pike Signs on to Play War Reporter Marie Colvin

19 April 2017 8:01 AM, PDT | Women and Hollywood | See recent Women and Hollywood news »

Rosamund Pike in “Return to Sender”: Patti Perret

Rosamund Pike is set to portray another real-life figure. The Oscar-nominated actress will play American war reporter Marie Colvin in an untitled film, Deadline reports. Pike was last seen in Amma Asante’s politically-charged biographical interracial romance “A United Kingdom” playing Ruth Williams, the white, British wife of King Seretse Khama of Botswana.

Colvin “worked in conflict zones including Chechnya, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka, where she lost her left eye in 2001,” the source writes. She “wore a distinctive eye patch after that, [and] died in early 2012 during a rocket attack covering the civil war in Syria for the U.K.’s Sunday Times.”

Slated to begin production in October in the UK and Middle East, the pic is based on “Marie Colvin’s Private War,” a 2012 Vanity Fair article written by Marie Brenner. Arash Amel (“Grace of Monaco”) penned the script, and Matthew Heineman (“Cartel Land”) will direct.

According to Deadline, the feature is being “produced by Thunder Road PicturesBasil Iwanyk and Kamala FilmsMarissa McMahon, as well as Denver & Delilah Films” with Erica Lee serving as exec producer. The source doesn’t mention Charlize Theron, who was initially reported to be producing the project. She’s still listed on the film’s IMDb page.

Pike received an Oscar nomination in 2015 for “Gone Girl.” “Jack Reacher,” “An Education,” and “Die Another Day” are among her other credits.

The Marie Colvin film isn’t the only high-profile project in the works about a woman documenting international conflict. Jennifer Lawrence will play Lynsey Addario in an upcoming adaptation of Addario’s best-selling memoir “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War,” and Kate Winslet is set to portray American photographer Lee Miller in an as-yet-untitled movie. Miller’s photos documented the events and effects of WWII, including the London Blitz and concentration camps.

You can still catch “A United Kingdom” in theaters.

As one of the few films affected by Dylan O’Brien’s crippling injury – the young up-and-comer was involved in a serious on-set accident while filming Ya sequel Maze Runner: The Death Cure – it’s no secret that American Assassin has spent a little more time in the oven than one would expect.

But with a September 15th launch date between its crosshairs, Michael Cuesta’s (Kill the Messenger) geopolitical thriller is prepped and ready to infiltrate theaters across the planet, and today brings forth the thrilling first trailer to stoke excitement. Placing O’Brien in the boots of volatile CIA Black Ops recruit Mitch Rapp, American Assassin is pulled from the pages of Vince Flynn’s sweeping 15-part novel series, and it’s clear CBS Films is gunning to establish a bona fide action franchise – think Jack Reacher with a little more political bite.

Tiff on the need for female film critics

The Guardian The Rock reveals he was turned down for the role of Jack Reacher in favor of Tom Cruise. Which puts that original quote that they couldn't find a tall enough actor to play the 6'5" fictional character to shame! (It's like when producers say "we couldn't find someone who can sing and dance for this musical"... it's just code for: 'we didn't really try because we liked Star A even though they were wrong for it'

The Retro Set a look at Fred Astaire defying gravity in Royal Wedding for director Stanley Donen's birthday

Coming Soon after terrific 3rd season Grace & Frankie is renewed, will add Lisa Kudrow for a guest arc

Dwayne Johnson Auditioned For Jack Reacher

13 April 2017 8:17 AM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

In 2016, Dwayne Johnson became the highest grossing actor of the year. In a world where Robert Downey Jr, Tom Cruise, and Johnny Depp, that’s a huge deal. Even more impressive is when you look at the man’s WWF (pre-wwe) beginnings. Sure, he was a huge deal in his early wrestling career, but that doesn’t necessarily make for a good actor, or even a good action star.

However, with a whole lot of elbow grease, and the can-do attitude that only The Rock can exude, he’s launched himself all the way to the top. But it wasn’t always peaches and roses for the actor. Nor does he get everything he wants, even when auditioning, as evidenced by a recent reveal on Twitter. According to the actor, he actually auditioned for the role of Jack Reacher.

Yup, luv the character. Bout 10yrs ago I went after the role, »

The 50 Greatest Car Chases in Film: Part 1

12 April 2017 8:21 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

The Fast and Furious movies aren't the only ones with great car chases. Join us as we take a look at the 50 best car chase scenes in film. This week, we’re looking at #50 through 26.

Like peanut butter and jelly, car chases and movies are two things that just go together perfectly. A chase is inherently interesting to watch - someone is trying their best to get away by any means possible, while the other party is trying to stop them from doing so. The danger involved, the threat of violence, and even the thrill of the hunt are all part of why we often can’t look away. A car chase is the next level of chase. They are fast - an embodiment of man and machine together. They are also dangerous - the stakes are incredibly high, and not just for the people involved in the chase.

Filming under the working title of “Gemini”, M:i-6 sees Cruise return once again as Special Agent Ethan Hunt who has been seen whizzing around the city of streets of the French capital on a motorcycle. Dwayne Johnson Jack Reacher. Two names that should have gone together? Well, the actor has revealed that he once went up for the part.

More on the Dwayne Johnson Jack Reacher news below.

I have a soft spot for the Jack Reacher movies, and even the Lee Child novels, but I guess even I imagined that Reacher would be… bigger in the movies.Tom Cruise, who bagged the part, reportedly only stands at 5ft 7in – and the character is written as being 6ft 5in.

Well, Cruise is pretty decent as Reacher, but another Hollywood heavyweight has revealed that he once went for the coveted role, only to lose out. That man was Dwayne Johnson who was told by a fan that he would be perfect for the role… His reply on Twitter:

The actor has revealed he went for the role of Lee Child’s hulking detective, which Cruise ultimately won despite lacking the size of the original character

It is a casting decision that has long puzzled fans and critics: how did Tom Cruise, who is said to be 5ft 7in (1.70 metres), come to appear as the 6ft 5in (1.95 metre) Jack Reacher in the film adaptations of Lee Child’s crime novels?

Now comes news that a rather more proportionally suitable star was in contention to play the hulking private investigator, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealing that he was turned down for the part.
