No sex. Brief male nudity shown in a prison camp. A man is (falsely) informed that his wife is acting as a whore, and there is discussion on this.

Substantial. There are recurring shots of the Mau Mau uprising, including a colonial house being over-run and guns seized, preparations for slaughter of a goat in an initiation ceremony, execution of a women and a child and potentially disturbing torture and beating scenes, including a man's ear-drum being pierced with a pencil. Threats are made that a woman will be attacked, and a gang attacks a school with sticks and stones.

A group of Africans is shown several times drinking at a small liquor outlet.
