Russell Brand Doc to Open 2015 SXSW, Plus Six Other Films Announced

8 January 2015 12:39 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

This March will mark my fourth straight year attending the South by Southwest Film Festival. Every year creates many memorable moments, whether it be seeing the world premiere of Short Term 12 when it was on no one's radar or seeing Iko Uwais and Cecep Arif Rahman fight on stage when there was a problem with the screening file for The Raid 2, I always have a good time seeing as many movies I can in a short amount of time. And I am happy to be covering it for the first time as press for RopeofSilicon. The opening night films for SXSW have been hit and miss. My first year it was The Cabin in the Woods, and unfortunately, they cannot all be that great. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Chef followed after that. This year, SXSW has chosen the documentary Brand: A Second Coming as the opening night film. »

6 January 2015 9:49 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Recently we've seen Olivia Wilde in the likes of Her, Rush and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. But when she comes back she's not quite the same as when she left.Bits of Flatliners and The Eye in that set-up, but hopefully the full movie will effectively tread its own path. David Gelb (the rather different Jiro Dreams Of Sushi) is the director; Luke Dawson (Shutter) and Jeremy Slater (the new Fantastic »

The 10 Most Overrated and Underrated Films of 2014

5 January 2015 11:00 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

2014 has been a particularly good year for movies. It seems everyone found a group of movies they could hold onto in a very personal way. I like that. It created a very diverse set of top tens around the Internet. However, because opinions were so diverse, it makes a lot of us think, "Why did so many people like thatc" or "Why does no one talk about this moviec" Well, Rope of Silicon writer Jordan Benesh and I decided to choose five films each of us thought got far more praise than they deserved and five films we thought did not get enough love. Thus, we bring you the top ten overrated and underrated movies of 2014. The first five and five combination is mine, Mike Shutt's, and Jordan's start on page three. Enjoy! The lists are not numerically ranked. Just alphabetical. When our top tens come around, then you will get some rankings. »
