Storyline

Just as Rhoda, Brenda, Gary and Johnny are to head off for the evening to attend the opening of a new play, Jack stops by Rhoda's apartment for a quick bite and to pick up some props that Rhoda had been working on. As they are all about to head off, Jack throws out his back, this injury being a recurring one. Rhoda not only has to figure out what to do with a basically immobile Jack for the evening, he who doesn't feel he needs to see a doctor, but over the next few days as well as that is how long Jack says it usually takes for his back to heal. Jack staying on Rhoda's sofa disrupts her personal life not only by Jack's sheer presence, but also since he feels he can't just lie there doing nothing, meaning that if Jack can't go to the costume shop, the costume shop has to come to him.
