(05.10.85)

Live from Long Island, NY

Attendance: 8,300

Your hosts are Vince McMahon & Jessie Ventura

We get some pre-match comments from Wendi Richter, Cyndi Lauper, Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, Team USA, and Ricky Steamboat.

Barry Windham, Mike Rotundo & Ricky Steamboat (W/Capt. Lou Albano) Vs The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volokoff & George "The Animal" Steele (W/Freddie Blassie)

The heels end up deserting George Steele. Windham takes advantage by pinning Steele with an O'Connor Roll. The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff attack Steele after the match. This was a fun opener that moved really quick with all sorts of excitement. Even Volkoff and Sheik looked half-decent here. Steele's random face turn was a bit weird, but it ended up working out fairly well.

Next, is Piper's Pit. The guest is none other than Paul Orndorff. Piper puts his arm around Orndorff and says he wants to talk about Wrestlemania, man to man with Orndorff. Orndorff shrugs him off and gets upset. Orndorff tells Bob Orton to back himself into the corner, and calls him a dunce. Piper tells Orton that Orndorff is afraid. Piper asks Orndorff to sit down, but Orndorff says "ladies first" ouch. Piper says he feels sorry for Orndorff because he's a loser. Orndorff gets unnerved by Orton to the point where Piper demands Orndorff sit down. Piper says it was Orndorff's shoulders that were pinned to the mat, not his. Orndorff asks where Piper was after the match at Wrestlemania. Piper says he was doing his job. Orndorff says Piper was busy hightailing it. Piper says that's baloney. He thinks Orndorff lost his guts. He took Orndorff under his wing. Orndorff says Piper has been too busy drinking his own bath water. Piper says Orndorff is a piece of garbage. Piper will slap him just as fast as Orndorff would slap him. Piper says Orndorff embarrassed everyone. A brawl ensues between Piper and Orndorff. Orndorff goes for the piledriver, but Orton nails Orndorff from behind with his cast. Mr. T runs to the aid of Orndorff.

Thoughts: This was an intense segment. Orndorff was kind of a awkward babyface here because he was still transitioning from a heel to a babyface. Piper was perfect as the antagonist. Mr. T running down for the save made sense.

Hulk Hogan says he's seen a change in Paul Orndorff when the Hulkamaniacs started rallying behind him.

WWF Championship

Hulk Hogan (W/Mr. T) (C) Vs 'Cowboy' Bob Orton (W/Roddy Piper)

Hogan wins by DQ after Piper interferes. Mr. T and Hulk Hogan get beat up by Piper and Orton until Paul Orndorff comes in to make the save as the heels retreat. This was a decent match. Not to discredit Hogan, but Orton was a magician in the ring. One of the best technical wrestlers in the game. Hogan was in good hands.

**1/2

The Fabulous Moolah said she went to the higher-ups to get Cyndi Lauper barred from ringside. Lauper protests and says Moolah always interferes in Wendi Richter's matches.

Women's Championship

Wendi Richter (C) Vs The Fabulous Moolah

The referee bands Cyndi Lauper from being at ringside. Wendi Richter wins with a small package. These two usually have mediocre matches together. They just don't click. Compared to women's wrestling these days, it's pretty bland and tame.

*1/2

The Junkyard Dog Vs Pete Doherty

JYD wins with a powerslam. This was complete and utter annihilation from The Junkyard Dog. It was a squash match and nothing more.

½*

Wrestlers and managers alike show up to Cyndi Lauper's Mother's Day party. The highlight is The Fabulous Moolah and Gene Okerlund getting shoved into a cake.

This is a pretty decent show overall. Piper's Pit was great and the matches were solid as well. If you're a wrestling enthusiast, it's well worth a watch.

6.5/10
