"Netherbeast" on Par with Jules Feiffer's Classic "Little Murders"
Not since Jules Feiffer's 1971 darkest of the dark satires, "Little Murders," about the hellish life in New York's forgotten netherworld, has a movie succeeded in such a clever, subversive way of sounding a cautionary note about contemporary mores while at the same time succeeding with good, old-fashioned belly laughs that inexplicably cannot be suppressed (no matter how guilty the viewer feels). From the shrewd, finely honed retro title sequence right out of the original "Pink Panther," to a cast that seamlessly melds well-known with should-be-known actors who underplay to the hilt, this film will assuredly achieve cult status for the upcoming Ronalds brothers & Co. Coen brothers watch out. You've got some real competition here.
