The special was taped at the Filoli Center in Woodside, California, which was used as the exterior of the Carrington mansion in the series. The staircase seen in the reunion is the actual Filoli mansion staircase. However on Dynasty, the staircase was re-created on a sound stage and moved to the opposite wall. This was the first time Joan Collins, Gordon Thomson and Catherine Oxenberg had been at the location.
The Filoli Estate was also the mansion seen in the Warren Beatty film Heaven Can Wait. Beatty helped restore the abandoned house to its former glory and in 1980, the Dynasty producers chose the site as the setting for their series. It is currently a museum and is opened to the public.
The producers had planned to film a catfight segment with Joan Collins and Linda Evans at the Filoli estate's lily pond, but due to rain, the segment was reworked and moved indoors.
The white Rolls-Royce seen in the opening credits was once owned by Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball.
Tom Rogers, the caretaker of the Filoli Mansion, has a cameo as one of the butlers. The other butler is played by Stephen Pouliot, one of the reunion's writers.
The dresses worn by Joan Collins and Linda Evans were designed by Nolan Miller, who created their wardrobe for the series.
Although Dynasty originally aired on ABC, the series is currently owned by Paramount. As a result, CBS secured the rights to the reunion.
Michael Nader, who played Dex in the series would not permit any clips of his to be used in the program.
Dency Nelson, one of the show's stage managers, was the grandson of a woman who had worked as a maid at the Filoli mansion when it was a private residence. It was his first time at the house.
The chauffeur driving the Rolls Royce at the show's opening is James Yarnell, the show's Production Designer.
