John and Dean Solomon may have Ph.D.s, but they're socially inept after their widowed father home-schooled them in Antarctica. When their beloved dad falls into a coma, they hatch a plan to revive him using a positive emotional shock - giving him a grandchild. They find a surrogate mom through Craig's list - she's Janine, a penniless local musician, with a large, intimidating boyfriend, James. The pregnancy gives the Solomons nine months to learn to be parents. In a side story, John pursues Tara, a neighbor who takes care of their dad when John and Dean are out; but she has no interest in John. Can the boys keep Janine and James happy, keep dad alive, and learn to be dads? Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>

A walkie-talkie appears, disappears and reappears during a scene in the brother's apartment. When John asks Tara to go to a movie, he places the walkie-talkie onto the medical equipment between her and his father's bed. As he leaves the apartment, the walkie-talkie isn't seen anywhere near Tara. When Janine talks to Tara about the Brothers Solomon and Dean overhears Tara call them "losers", the walkie-talkie has returned to its place on the medical equipment. See more »

Dean Solomon: I gotta be honest, Erica. I'm really feeling a connection here. I mean, you're beautiful, impeccable dresser... great personality, nice hair, fat, great smile, smell good. Have you ever heard of the phrase "More cushion for the pushin"'?
Erica: Yeah, why?
Dean Solomon: Because you got it, lady.

A Ridiculous yet Funny Movie
23 August 2008 | by See all my reviews

The Brothers Solomon is one of those movies that is incredibly dumb and ridiculous, yet it turns out to be funny. This movie had it's moments when it was pretty funny and made itself a decent looking comedy, but at other points you were thinking 'why the hell would somebody write that.' The whole point is that John and Dean Solomon want to grant their dad's wish by having a grandchild for him. Will Arnett did a really funny job as always and I continue to like what he does, but this wasn't his best work by far. I think this movie is like a forgotten movie. I mean people won't be talking about The Brothers Solomon for the next twenty. I wouldn't go out on a limb to watch it, but if it was on and nothing else was, then I wouldn't change the channel.
