The cattle drive to the army fort begins in earnest and the cowboys spend long hours in the saddle herding 130+ cows across open range. But back on the ranch, Mrs. Cooke and her daughters struggle to get the ranch in shape for a visit from historical assessors, who will determine whether the ranch is economically viable under the Cooke family's management.
