The dynasty increases, and so does the evil.

Warning: Spoilers
Baby Caligula arrives to Germanicus and his wife Agrippina as the battle for who will replace Augustus grows. In the opening segment, the Praetorian guard demands their 20 years of service be decreased to 16, and that makes them want Germanicus. However, it's obvious where the head of that guard, Sejanus has his own ambitions. Claudius isn't the honorable man he would be as played by Derek Jacobi, and just presented as a drunk and a fool who actually has a closer relationship to his uncle Tiberius. Empress Livia isn't in this episode, mentioned as being the heir to Augustus's financial estate. Tiberius seemingly does not want to become emperor, only to retire to Capri and peace, but we know that fate will not allow that, just yet.

So photos as the gospel truth about the early ancient Roman emperors as the gospel truth, this gives conflict to much of that tale, and that shows a lot of what we believe we know about that time isn't necessarily correct even if it makes great drama. André Morell as Tiberius and Eric Flynn as Germanicus aren't rivals for the throne as they are very close, and the presentation of Tiberius here is closer to the early years we saw of him in *I Claudius", although I would say that George Baker's performance is a lot more fascinating.
