Wow!

After the first episode I thought OK this just seems like a standard big robots vs big monsters kind of deal. I never could have predicted the tone of this second episode.

I found the Contrast between the loud battle scenes and the eerily quiet indoor scenes to be very effective. It really emphasises the sense of quiet and isolation the boy is experiencing. His aloneness.

I really loved this - we follow the boy in the aftermath of that epic battle, getting brought to live with the woman from Nerv who has spontaneously decided to adopt him. I guess because it seems as if his own father is showing no regard for the boy's upbringing.

The tone of the show switches to something unexpected and all of sudden we are in this weird situation of possible sexual tension between the woman and boy. We suddenly realise this is a show about humans. There are feelings here.

At first we don't know how the original battle played out, only that the boy must have survived somehow. It's revealed in a traumatic flashback that he has while lying on his Bed. This was cleverly done as we get to imagine experiencing it through his memory rather than just observing it for ourselves.

There's also a random penguin!

This second episode has got me very intrigued by this show.

More AoT vibes

Warning: Spoilers
Another great episode. Visuals are stunning, colors pop out so beautifully, the boardroom meeting had Tron type technology for the lights which was great, the fight was fun to watch especially for 1995. The world feels extremely lived in; we could hear people discussing what happened and being scared as hell, we can he's the sounds of the city and nature, the pace is slow and cinematic, the backgrounds are beautiful, the music is awesome and retro. They don't make TV anime at this pace with this atmosphere anymore. Not many fictional worlds feel real but this one does. The characters feel like real people too. The dialogue is realistic and engaging.

The parallels between this show and AoT are very similar. Giant bodies attacking a guarded area, giant controlled bodies fighting back against them, a teenager being expecting to master the use of the giant body quickly, seems to be a war between nations or peoples, the mechs and Titans are both bio based, the father son relationship with Shinji and his dad is very similar to Zeke and Grishsa, also the Angel looks is shaped like the beast Titan along with their true forms. People talking about the attacks on their city is also similar.

Shinji and his Eva raging out and striking the Eva super hard and ground and pounding them was awfully similar to Eren vs Annie and Eren vs Warhammer. The beginning was like Eren vs Annie with his rage coming out and the bit strike that sends them flying and the ground and pound. The ending was like Eren vs Warhammer because the ground and pound then an attack from the bottom from the eva which did heavy damage like Warhammer's giant spike on Eren however the Eva did much more damage.

AoT is my favorite anime of all time and it seems this show has had heavy influence on it which I love. I'm so excited to watch the rest of this show and End of Eva knowing how influential it is on anime as a whole.

This is (not) an exciting episode

Warning: Spoilers
What action there is in this episode is actually just a flashback of the events of the last episode. Amu- er, Shinji, moves in with Misato. Nothing quite like the oversexed, fanservice alcoholic character to look after the child soldier who had psychological issues already and now has more.

I'm beginning to think that why this show is so popular is not just because watching it makes people FEEL smart while the show itself is not actually smart (but we shall see) but also because it's young male wish fulfillment. Yeah I hate to sound like a Buzzfeed feminist but think about it; a young shy guy pilots a giant robot and lives with a (slightly) attractive grown woman in (Neo) Tokyo (3). Sounds like the deepest wishes of many a male anime fan. Spare me ''Oh but most/a lot of anime are young male wish fulfillment''; very few shows are treated like the mostsuperultradoubleplushypergreatbestdeepestmostrevolutionaryanimeever and endlessly gushed over so much as this one is. The question is whether this show has actually earned its reputation and 2 episodes in, as I very much expected, so far it hasn't by a long shot.

Warning: Spoilers
It was interesting to see Mikado and their team's face when Eva defeat Shito. They were rather frightened than excited, because they hadn't seen the real face of Eva, and the power was beyond imagination.
