One of the best viewing experiences I've ever had.

I only just saw this episode. I've recently been watching all the episodes of this show in order, and I've loved every episode. Its haunting beauty, playful humour and just quality in general...

But it wasn't until this episode, until I was literally in tears. Shinji's whole experience was so touching, so beautiful and shocking... Something similar also happen with Rei a couple of episodes before, that I also loved.

This just goes to show that this series is certainly one of the best animes ever made. Seriously, check it out.

Misato and Shinji are one in the same
shaww019 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's kinda felt like the show has been on autopilot for episodes 11 - 14, so I'm really glad that the show is starting to pick up the pace and get more intense. The blood curling screams from the voice actors are so intense, it really adds to the episode. The amount we learn about Shinji is incredible, it tells so much but it isn't a synopsis of his character and is open to extreme interpretation.

It's so heartwarming to see Asuka and Rei care about Shinji, and Misato crying is probably the saddest scene of the show so far. Misato is always playing the role of the nice, but demanding mother. Throughout the show, she has constantly been pointing out Shinji's traits, what makes him happy, why he's not happy, she even points out the Hedgehog Effect that she sees in him. In episode 15 she realizes she is not much different from Shinji. They are the same, and right as Misato realizes it, and right as she is finally able to form a family-like bond with him, she may lose him to the shadow of the most dangerous Angel they have ever faced.

Easily the best episode of the show so far. I really hope this isn't the shows best episode, and that it's an uphill climb from here.

10/10.

Asuka must (not) keep acting this way
EuropeanQoheleth10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Asuka's pointless jealousy of Shinji winds up with her saying that he should take the lead, which he does and ends up getting trapped by the angel. More introspection, yay (not)! Gainax's infamous mishandling of the budget is on display as one shot (of Shinji with his eyes closed) lasts for 26 seconds and I worry that the rest of the show will be like this; pointless introspection and shots that are far too long for no reason other than Gainax had run low on money. Shinji breaks out and ends the episode in a hospital bed yet again. He looks at his hand and declares that the smell of blood is still there.

Wish I was in this episode so I could punch Asuka's jaws
vessalalizadeh28 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
JUST because Shinji's stats are higher than Asuka's, she tells Shinji that he should take the lead when an Angel attacks. And from that, Shinji ends up trapped by the Angel inside it.

I do not get why this episode was praised by many people. I understand that Asuka deep down cares about Shinji, and we see that in episode 22. But, this episode is the only one where Asuka was almost hateable.

Outside of that, when Shinji experiences the dream on the train, we also get to hear a dialogue from a man who says that Gendo is suspiciously the one who murdered her wife a long time ago (Shinji's father). But it explains it in episode 21.

This episode is (not) great. It's overrated.

the episode was showing minds of characters
ajtwlsalsdl6 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I could see minds of characters deeper than past episodes, Shinji's mind when he was captured, and Rei's mind(she didn't show her mind much). There was implication of the relationship between Shinji's mother and Eva, I'm wondering what is the secret of Eva.
