This Is What Happens When Araki Doesn't Write His Films
29 May 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Jane F (Anna Faris) is a stoner who, largely through no fault of her own, falls into trouble, which leads to more trouble and more trouble and more trouble... and how will she get out of it? You'll just have to watch this film to see.

Gregg Araki directed this, but he did not write it (unlike all his other work). This is evident, as it doesn't have the dark themes of Araki's other work and the perverse sexuality. Likewise, it has very different music from what fans may be used to -- no industrial classics here. And a different brand of humor.

The humor, by and large, is not so great. Some parts are funny, but it drags and I felt like the laughs should have been more consistent. If it wasn't for Faris' beauty, I would have lost interest in certain scenes. The running joke is that she's high... which gets old quickly. You can make movies about being high and be funny ("Half Baked") but this one just wasn't consistent.

I'd recommend it for fans of drug movies or Anna Faris. Gregg Araki fans may be disappointed. Some like it, as they see it as a nice change of pace. I, for one, love "Doom Generation" and "Nowhere" and would welcome more films like that... so, in short, I was disappointed.
