Joey Essex wants to find Justin Bieber in his Christmas stocking tomorrow morning (25.12.11). The 'Only Way is Essex' hunk would love to spend some quality time with the 'Never Say Never' hitmaker over the festive period because he is a big fan of the 17-year-old singer. He said: "I'd like to find Justin Bieber in my stocking. That'd be wicked to have him jump out and be all, 'Alright Joey, what's happening mate?' We'd get a load of pictures together and hang out for the day. Imagine that: I'd wake up, rub my eyes and there's Justin Bieber. I'm »

Trent Reznor: 'I'm not at war with myself as I once was'

23 December 2011 4:24 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Trent Reznor's score for The Social Network won an Oscar. Will The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo bag him another? Dorian Lynskey meets him at his Beverly Hills home

Some time in the late 1990s, the music video director Mark Romanek approached his friend Trent Reznor to compose the score for his feature debut One Hour Photo, a thriller in which lab technician Robin Williams becomes obsessed with a suburban family. It was not the happiest time for Reznor, who was straining to complete the third Nine Inch Nails album and, he says, was about to "slip off a cliff of addiction". While things were still at the demo stage, he received an apologetic call from Romanek saying the studio was pressuring him to use a "real composer".

The physical evidence of how much has changed since those days is 34cm tall, gold-plated and stands on the mantelpiece of Reznor's house in Beverly Hills. »

The Wanted's Max George recently had a baby scare following a seres of Twitter posts from fans. The boyband star, who is engaged to Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan, revealed that he was bombarded with tweets congratulating him on his fiancée's supposed pregnancy. "Someone tweeted me saying, 'I am so happy Michelle is pregnant', and I was like, 'I don't know about this'," he told the Daily Star. "I had a little panic and rang her. She told me she was shopping in a baby shop looking for a present for her cousin's baby. It would be quite weird if I had found out through Twitter. Imagine that!" Sony Renews Deal with Escape Artists; Slate Includes The Equalizer Starring Denzel Washington and Sex Tape with Jason Segel

13 December 2011 1:31 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Escape Artists’s first-look deal with Sony Pictures has been reupped, extending the relationship between the two companies through 2015. Escape Artists has been with Sony since 1998, and produced its first film independently in 2001: A Knight’s Tale. The relationship between Sony and Escape Artists has birthed The Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds, and the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. Included in the release is news of Escape Artists’s upcoming slate. An interesting tidbit included mentions that Denzel Washington is now attached to the feature film adaptation of the 1980s CBS crime series The Equalizer. The project was initially developed for Russell Crowe and director Paul Haggis, but this new report only makes mention of Washington and producer Alex Siskind. Hit the jump to find out what else the upcoming Escape Artist slate includes. Another film mentioned in THR's report on the matter includes the »

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson top Forbes' most bankable list

Twilight couple and Anne Hathaway named Hollywood's best value actors by Forbes magazine

Hollywood producers looking to develop blockbuster movies at a bargain price should be going out of their way to secure the services of Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, according to a new report by Forbes. The Us business magazine has published its annual list of the actors who provide the best return on an investment for the cheapest wage, and it also makes positive reading for more established actors such as Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.

Stewart, star of the Twilight series, sits at the top of the money tree. For every $1 she is paid, her films over the past five years have returned $55.83, Forbes reports. Closely behind in second place is Hathaway, whose films make $45.67 for every dollar of her wage, largely thanks to the $1bn success of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. »

My favourite film: Readers' comments – week five

29 November 2011 8:37 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

We're picking out your finest responses to our My favourite film series, for which Guardian writers have selected the movies they go back to time and again.

Here's a roundup of how you responded in week five, when the selections were Dead Poets Society, The Thing, Blow-Up, The 39 Steps, Little Shop of Horrors, Way Out West and Double Indemnity

The fifth week of our My favourite film series opened with an act of defiance. Sarfraz Manzoor had the floor. He spoke of passion and inspiration, of the courage in seizing the moment. He covered romance and skipped realism, asked for your heart, promised adventure. And, one by one, you read his piece on Dead Poets Society, gave your classmates a nudge and laughed him off the lectern.

"Oh Sarfraz! Captain my captain, how could you?," said MyLeftFoot. "It really is the most cliche-ridden load of baloney." "Appropriate time to have »

Happy Feet Two (And The Hobbit!) Interview – Elijah Wood

29 November 2011 4:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Last week I got to sit down with Elijah Wood to chat about his new movie, Happy Feet Two. It so happened that the first question asked at the round table lead nicely into The Hobbit so this interview starts with a lot of Hobbit information on filming and what we can expect but mainly what Elijah felt when he returned to the set. He was such a nice bloke and I could have spoken with him for hours. I wanted to get more information from him about his memories from Back to the Future Part II but that will have to wait for another day!

Elijah plays Mumbles in Happy Feet Two which hits UK cinemas this Friday, 2nd December. If you missed the interview with Robin Williams, you can catch up here. Tomorrow we’ll have an interview with Director George Miller so keep your eyes peeled for that. »

'Geek Love' reality show ordered by TLC, because nerds need love too

Geeks finding each other. Imagine that. TLC, you know this happens all the time, right? It's not hard to find people with similar interests in the time of Facebook, Twitter and the wildly popular Comic Con. Cos-players spy each other from across the room and fall in love. World of Warcraft players meet each other in person and get married. Still, it's nice that you're trying to help.

Nerds are all the rage now and TLC has ordered a new reality show called "Geek Love," which highlights speed dating at scifi events like Comic Con. The service pairs geeks with each other via Ryan Giltch, founder of a service called Sci-Fi Speed Dating.

TLC greenlit two half-hour specials that will air next month. If they do well, we'll get a full season. Check out the promo below and marvel at the Wookie mating call.

Video Game Review: B-Movie Glee of ‘House of the Dead: Overkill’

15 November 2011 2:57 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “House of the Dead: Overkill” is not unlike “Grindhouse” for shooter fans. Remember the total chaos of Robert Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror”? Imagine that insane, B-movie violence, gore, and ridiculous dialogue in video game form. Much to the surprise of those of us who had written off any chance of adult-driven games on the Nintendo Wii, the “House of the Dead” game hit the platform in 2009 and was a fun ride. Now the game has been upgraded, remastered, and Move-enabled for PS3 fans. If you have one of those remarkably-underused motion devices for your Sony machine, this is one of the best things you could possibly do with it.

Video Game Rating: 3.5/5.0

If you’re not familiar with the Wii version of this game, you should be warned — your grandma is not going to like you playing it. This is the kind of insane title that includes multiple »

A Thousand Words, One Trailer

11 November 2011 2:51 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Has anyone seen Adam Sandler recently? Eddie Murphy must have fought him to the death for this terrible role. A man who constantly lies is magically connected to a tree that loses its leaves when he speaks. He now has 1000 words remaining until the tree dies, and so does he. I’m already laughing!

The trailer has Bruce Almighty and Click vibes from the offset (annoying man encounters overwhelming magic for no discernible reason) so it’s no surprise that  A Thousand Words comes from the very same writer. Steve Koren has also recently brought the world Jack And Jill… So that’s what Adam Sandler’s been doing.

In all honesty, I have a barely-ironic love for bad Eddie Murphy films and I’ll be seeing A Thousand Words. I managed to sit through Daddy Day Care and Imagine That — which were billed as children’s comedy but featured »

First trailer for long-lost Eddie Murphy film A Thousand Words

10 November 2011 8:58 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

It’s been finished for years, but left unreleased. Now, the first trailer for Eddie Murphy in A Thousand Words suggests why that may be…

Back in January 2010, we wrote an article wondering just what had happened to the then-completed Eddie Murphy comedy A Thousand Words. Following on from the box office disasters that were Meet Dave and the underrated (but still far from great) Imagine That, A Thousand Words was one of Murphy’s increasingly-dreaded family comedies, about a man with just 1000 words left to say in his life. That it's from the director of Norbit did not inspire confidence.

Finally, the film has been scheduled, but it won’t be appearing in the Us until March 2012. And this maiden trailer for the film has just appeared.

Let’s just say this: if you were wondering why the film has sat on the shelf for the best part of three years at least, »

Cma Awards 2011: 'Twilight' vamp Kellan Lutz presents ... kinda

9 November 2011 6:04 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Who knew that vampires liked country music? "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" star (and by star, we mean the guy who makes the odd grunting noise and stands next to Nikki Reed a lot) Kellan Lutz appeared on the Cma awards as a presenter. Along with notorious ditz Kellie Pickler, he presented the award for "Song of the Year."

Pretty as these two are to look at, they appeared to have a bit of trouble with actually reading the cue cards and the award itself. (It went to Kimberly Perry, who's brothers and fellow band mates Neil and Reid flanked her like a pair of rejects from a "Spinal Tap" remake audition. Seriously, what the heck was happening on the tops of their heads?)

After an attempt at calling each other attractive, and stumbling over each others' words, and a speech by Perry, we cut to commercial ... which was, surprise surprise, »

'Puss In Boots' Beats 'Tower Heist' At Box Office

Industry projections had Eddie Murphy caper flick at #1.

Two very different heist flicks went head-to-head over the weekend, and in a surprising upset, a rapier-wielding cartoon cat emerged victorious over two high-profile comedians. In a turn of events that was somewhat shocking to Hollywood, Eddie Murphy's return from the land of family-friendly fare alongside Ben Stiller in the PG-13 "Tower Heist" opened behind last weekend's #1 movie, "Puss in Boots."

Audiences continued to come out to watch the 3-D "Shrek" spinoff character snatch some magic beans from an evil Jack and Jill in "Puss in Boots" to the tune of $33 million, keeping the DreamWorks Animation flick at #1 with a $75.5 million domestic total. "Puss" dropped just three percent from its $33.04 million debut, which marked an unprecedentedly low non-holiday decline for a wide release.

Industry projections had put director Brett Ratner's "Tower Heist" in the #1 spot, »

Tower Heist: Eddie Murphy Latest Box-Office Disappointment

Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek), Puss in Boots Partly as a result of last weekend's snowstorm along the northeastern coast of the United States, DreamWorks Animation's Puss in Boots had a soft opening, $34 million. Since there was no cataclysmic snowstorms (and no Halloween festivities) this Nov. 4-6 weekend, the Shrek spin-off recouped some of that previously distracted audience, thus earning an estimated $33.05 million. The animated feature was down a mere 3% from a week ago according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Directed by Shrek the Third's Chris Miller, Puss in Boots features the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton, and Amy Sedaris. The film, which cost an estimated $130 million, has also collected $39 million overseas. At a disappointing no. 2, Brett Ratner's Tower Heist pulled in an estimated $25.1 million, which is at the very lower end of (official) studio expectations, »

Top 10 Most Overpaid Hollywood Actors

6 November 2011 4:31 AM, PST | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Eddie Murphy is in the middle of a comeback with his "Tower Heist" film and the upcoming job of hosting the Academy Awards. But even though he has delivered box office bomb after box office bomb during the last few years, he was only the second most overpaid actor in Forbes' list of Hollywood's Most Overpaid Stars. Taking first place is Drew Barrymore, whose films returned just $0.40 for every dollar the studios spent on her. The actress doesn't earn as much as some of the other people on the list, but her films have consistently performed poorly, like "Everybody's Fine" and "Lucky You." Murphy landed in second place with hit films grossing $2.70 for every dollar spent on him. "Imagine That" and "Meet Dave" earned the actor millions, but neither film earned back its production budget. Looking at the rest of the list, you might find it surprising that Reese Witherspoon, »

Forbes Magazine’s Most Overpaid Stars List

5 November 2011 2:08 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

If Hollywood studios want to keep their budgets under control, then they simply need to look at the return on investments from these stars. Forbes Magazine published its latest list of Hollywood’s most overpaid stars. Some of your favorite stars are surprisingly (or not surprisingly) on the list. The top overpaid star is actress Drew Barrymore, according to the magazine. She only earned 40 cents back for every dollar spent on her. Ouch! In 2009, Barrymore’s “Everybody’s Fine,” earned $16 million globally and 2007’s “Luck You” managed only $8 million. Guess the studios are unlucky and not fine with these earnings. And in second place, comedian star “Eddie Murphy” earned only $2.70 for every dollar he was paid. The current “Tower Heist” star is hoping to turn things around after “Meet Dave” earned $50 million on a budget of $60 million and “Imagine That” bombed at the box office with $22 million on a budget of $55 million. »

Drew Barrymore knocks Will Ferrell off top of lowest earners chart

4 November 2011 9:37 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Forbes magazine's list of the lowest-grossing stars is headed by star of box-office flops Going the Distance and Whip It

If your name is Will Ferrell, today is a (relatively) good day. The star of The Land of the Lost and The Other Guys can no longer be tarnished with the mantle of Hollywood's least profitable star following the publication of the Forbes magazine list of the top 10 most overpaid actors.

Drew Barrymore is the new queen of excess after Forbes noted that her recent films pulled in a meagre 40 cents per $1 spent. By comparison Ferrell, who has famously topped the list for the last two years running, is now worth $3.50 per $1.

The Saturday Night Live alumnus still finds himself in third place on the list largely thanks to the box-office failure of The Land of the Lost ($70m return on a $100m budget) in 2009. Last year's The Other Guys »

Drew Barrymore, Eddie Murphy Top Forbes Overpaid Actors List

Will Ferrell came it at #3 on tally of Hollywood stars who aren't worth the salaries they bank.

On the same weekend that Eddie Murphy opens his comeback flick "Tower Heist" comes the news that he joins rom-com queen Drew Barrymore atop a list of Hollywood's most overpaid actors in the business. Forbes makes the case that these two movie stars aren't worth the bank they are making.

The site used an involved equation to figure out which celebrities would make the list. Celebrities qualified for it based on a set of criteria. One: They had to earn a large salary. Two: They had to have at least three films released in at least 500 theaters in the past five years. (Animated flicks and films released after May 1, 2011, didn't count.)

But wait, it didn't stop there. Using their Celebrity 100 list, Forbes calculated each star's »

Tower Heist

Directed by: Brett Ratner

Cast: Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda, Gabourey Sidibe

Running Time: 1 hr 44 mins

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: November 4, 2011

Plot: A group of workers at a New York high rise, led by the manager (Stiller), feel swindled by a wealthy investor (Alda), and conspire to rob his penthouse suite.

Who’S It For? This is an easy, breezy action comedy which should play to a broad audience.

Expectations: Ratner has never really done it for me. I consider his best film to be Rush Hour by default. It seems he believes in Murphy, convincing him to take the Oscar-hosting gig, so maybe he knows funny.

Scorecard (0-10)

Actors:

Ben Stiller as Josh Kovacs: Josh knows everyone’s name and what they like. He’s a people pleaser to the nth degree. Sure, his switch to the “dark side” or combative side is sudden, »
