Apparently, some fat kid and his friend created a multi-million dollar pot drug empire using some sneaky planning crossing the border to Canada to smuggle some good weed. Now we got a movie about it and the result is an OK comedy that for some reason wanted to be gritty near the end with mixed results.
Good: The direction was solid with some cool shots and the movie flows well. The story was interesting enough to follow it along as it kept building up to its climax. Some of the comedy works in spots.
Bad: The movie just doesn't anyone to latch on to. The lead is a fat kid who wants to deal drugs in order to provide for his family which is understandable. However, he is such an arrogant jerk that it is hard to like him or root for him. He is a terrible protagonist and the other characters are either potheads or jerks as well. The plot also follows the whole drug dealer rise and fall to a tee and it holds no surprises. Then there is the fact that it tries to be a gritty crime thriller and it doesn't work at all.
Overall, a jarring change of tone and lack of likable characters makes this a missed opportunity especially considering the fascinating backstory.
