Shirtless Dan Stevens Stars In First Trailer For Adam Wingard’s The Guest

11 August 2014 6:59 AM, PDT | | See recent news »

From the director of You’Re Next and starring Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey”), comes the first trailer for the thriller The Guest.

Director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett screened the film on Sunday evening at Sundance NextFest 14.

Followed by a q&a, the filmmakers and cast, as well as Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Only God Forgives), showed the movie to a packed house at the Ace Hotel Theater in Los Angeles. For a recap of the night, follow the movie’s twitter page: @TheGuestUSA

A soldier (Dan Stevens) introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

Empire Magazine called it “a demented action-horror hybrid of sci-fi conspiracy thriller and gore-fest”, and Vanity Fair said, “The Guest is big, »

Top 5 gross-out moments in cinema: Monty Python, Irréversible, Jackass

9 August 2014 1:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

As obsessed with bodily fluids as it is with social awkwardness, The Inbetweeners, be it on TV or the big screen, determinedly sets out to make viewers laugh until a bit of lung comes out. And with The Inbetweeners 2 now taking the boys, ahem, down under for more sexual shenanigans in Australia, the gross-out levels are set to soar (or plummet, depending on your viewpoint).

But making audiences squint, wince and fight their gag reflexes has always been a part of cinema. Sometimes it's done for belly laughs (Cameron Diaz styling her hair with Ben Stiller's homemade gel in There's Something About Mary), sometimes to elicit feelings of shock or revulsion (Ray Liotta forced to dine on his own brain in Hannibal). And sometimes it does all of the above at once (an army of zombies being cut to dripping ribbons with a lawnmower in Peter Jackson's splatstick horror »

11 Reasons Jane Fonda Owns a Ryan Gosling Chair

8 August 2014 7:40 PM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Talk about a hot seat.

Talk about a hot seat.

Oscar winner Jane Fonda was snapped hitting the town while carrying a chair that has Ryan Gosling's face on it.

Ryan Gosling in a Loin Cloth Wins #Tbt

First off, whoever came up with this chair deserves a medal. Ryan Gosling chair is the best thing. No matter who you are, guy or girl, we can probably all agree that the guy from Drive and The Notebook should have his face on all the chairs. But we wanted to know why this is the perfect chair for Jane Fonda specifically.

Can't think of a reason? Hey girl, here's eleven reasons Jane Fonda has a Ryan Gosling chair.

1. To match her Ryan Gosling couch.

2. The best chairs are sturdy, strong, silent types.

3. To have heated seats without running up the energy bill.

Watch: If Cliff Martinez Scored Martin Scorsese's 'Raging Bull' It Might Look Something Like This

7 August 2014 12:23 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Even if you don't know his name, you know his scores. From his work for Nicolas Winding Refn ("Drive," "Only God Forgives"), Harmony Korine ("Spring Breakers"), Robert Redford ("The Company You Keep") and ten collaborations with Steven Soderbergh (including "The Knick," listen to a track here), Cliff Martinez has established a distinct voice with his pulsating, throbbing compositions. One filmmaker he has yet to work with is Martin Scorsese, and seemingly just because, someone decided to mashup Martinez's work with "Raging Bull." As we much as like both Martinez and Scorsese, based on this edit at least, they don't seem a particularly suited match. Or at least "Raging Bull" may not be the right movie to put Martinez's music on top of (maybe "After Hours" would've made more sense). Either way, this is an interesting experiment and is worth watching anyway to illustrate that getting the right music and »

Christina Hendricks: 'I feel like Philip Seymour Hoffman is still here'

7 August 2014 2:05 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

There's now a fairly strong body of evidence to suggest that Christina Hendricks is a dream to work with. Two of her co-stars - Drive's Ryan Gosling and Mad Men's John Slattery - have now invited her to star in their directorial debuts, and the films debuted at this year's Cannes and Sundance festivals respectively.

Slattery's blackly comic God's Pocket stars Hendricks as a disillusioned single mother in a blue-collar Philadelphia neighbourhood, who sets out to uncover the truth after her widely-disliked son is killed in an apparent workplace accident.

When Digital Spy sat down with Hendricks earlier this week, we asked her about working with both Slattery and Gosling, her memories of late co-star Philip Seymour Hoffman, and her emotional final day on the set of Mad Men.

How did John Slattery approach you with God's Pocket?

Ryan Gosling "really proud" of Lost River, says star Christina Hendricks

6 August 2014 10:45 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Ryan Gosling is "really proud" of his directorial debut Lost River, according to the film's star Christina Hendricks.

The movie, which features Hendricks as a single mother struggling to survive in a ruined city, debuted to largely negative reviews at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

"People had very strong opinions about it, as they should," Hendricks told Digital Spy. "I'm really proud of it, and it is an art piece, and it is the movie that we thought we were making.

"There was no setup of the kind of movie he was making, it was just 'Ryan Gosling's making a movie', so everyone in their head imagined what they wanted Ryan Gosling to make, and Ryan Gosling made what he wanted to make. It was beautiful, and I think he's really proud of it."

Drive filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn is among those who have defended the film, calling it "a beautiful, »

Oscar Isaac Will Show Me A Hero On HBO For The Wire’s David Simon

30 July 2014 6:03 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

When critics and audiences began raving about Albert Brooks’ menacing portrayal in the 2011 thriller Drive, I was curious as to why Oscar Isaac, who had a small but outstanding performance in the same film, was not getting any love. Three years later, Isaac is finally starting to get his due. After a terrific performance as the title character in Inside Llewyn Davis and with lots of buzz surrounding his upcoming films A Most Violent Year and The Two Faces of January (not to mention that Star Wars episode), Isaac is becoming one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. So, it is no surprise that he is turning to HBO to keep his options fresh, as the network just greenlit Show Me a Hero, a new six-hour miniseries starring Isaac.

In the drama, which is based on true events (and Lisa Belkin’s non-fiction book of the same name), Isaac will play Nick Wasicsko, »

Ghent’s World Soundtrack Awards to Fete French Composer Francis Lai

22 July 2014 5:00 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Film Fest Ghent, whose World Soundtrack Awards initiated a spate of annual film music showcases around the world over the past decade, has named French composer Francis Lai as the recipient of the Wsa’s Lifetime Achievement Award for the event’s 14th edition (Oct. 14-25).

The honor for Lai, best known for his scores on Claude Lelouch’s landmark “A Man and a Woman” and Arthur Hiller’s blockbuster hit “Love Story,” is in keeping with the French skew of Ghent’s film fest proper, which is entering its 41st year. (Catherine Deneuve is this year’s poster girl.) In this regard, according to fest spokesperson Riema Reybrouck, a series retrospectives on French directors are in the planning stages.

A selection of Lai’s work will be performed at the WSAs on Oct. 25, where American film composer Cliff Martinez will also hold court as the main guest of the musical proceedings, »

Watch: 10-Minute Mashup Of Nicolas Winding Refn & Ryan Gosling's 'Drive' & 'Only God Forgives'

17 July 2014 12:28 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

One of the more interesting bromances in recent memory belongs to director Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling. The pair couldn't stop falling over themselves praising each other through the press runs of the widely acclaimed "Drive" and the divisive "Only God Forgives," and now a new mashup pays tribute to the creative work the pair delivered. Running ten minutes long, the video compares and contrasts the slick cool of "Drive" and what could be perceived as a rebuke of that cool, the dour and grim "Only God Forgives." A principled man in the former and a tortured soul in the latter, Gosling commands the screen without having to do much, while Refn places his star in one beautifully framed shot after another. Here's hoping they do a third movie sometime down the line. Watch below. »

66th Annual Emmy Nominations Announced

10 July 2014 8:22 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The nominations for the 66th Emmy Awards were released this morning, and I’m surprisingly satisfied with the results. Though there were an overabundance of nominations for the so-so Netflix series House of Cards and not nearly enough (read: any) for BBC America’s criminally-underrated Orphan Black, including for lead actress Tatiana Maslany, the categories shook out in a mostly predictable, if fair way.

Of course, heavyweights Breaking Bad and True Detective will be duking it out in the Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series categories (the latter of which saw both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson swipe nominations). Other shows which scored big include American Horror Story: Coven, dominating the Miniseries categories, Game of Thrones, which has the most nominations at 19, and Fargo, trailing just behind with 18.

I’m particularly pleased to see Idris Elba squeak into Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie »

I’m back! It’s been a long time and I apologise for that, moving house turned out to be a far far longer process than I anticipated or had been led to believe. Three weeks turned into six, six weeks turned into three months and now here we are.

Aside from the length of time it takes, moving house was a real eye opener in other areas too. Specifically in terms of how I inform you week on week of all of this wonderful content available to stream and then how you have to put up with lacklustre delivery from various ISPs.  I was living in someone else’s house on a connection that was not my own, not wanting to name names but there is one of the big three ISP’s in the UK which boasts about having one of, if not the, fastest broadband delivery on »
