NEW YORK -- Fox's American Idol continued to own Wednesday evening, lifting the network to another win in primetime. Idol averaged 27.4 million viewers and an 11.2 rating/27 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary ratings estimates from Nielsen Media Research. It was the night's top program in both measures, and lasted until 9:32 p.m. Unan1mous completed the win in the hour for Fox with 12 million viewers and a 5.4/13. ABC came in third in a four-way race, thanks in part to a clip show catching up viewers instead of a new Lost. The clip show did better, however, than a Lost repeat would have done, averaging 11.6 million viewers and a 4.4/11. That 4.4/11 was second only to Fox in the demographic at the 9 p.m. hour.

NEW YORK -- Fox easily won Wednesday's primetime with an unbeatable combination of an American Idol results show and the second episode of the reality series Unan1mous. American Idol was the night's most-watched show and highest-rated in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary ratings estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Idol averaged 27.3 million viewers and an 11.2 rating/26 share in the demo. It continues to be a winning season for Idol, which has increased viewers 10% and 6% in the demo. While that's not surprising, the success of Unan1mous might be. Unan1mous averaged 14.4 million viewers and a 6.3/15 in the demo ? the highest lead-out for American Idol in the five-year history of the show. It's up 52% in the demo and 42% in total viewers compared to the 9:30 p.m. time slot so far this season on Fox.

The American Idol hopefuls and Barry Manilow crooned to the tune of another weekly win for Fox in the adults 18-49 demographic, while the series of upsets in the NCAA men's basketball tournament cut down the ratings net in total viewers for CBS in a narrow win over Fox for the week ending March 26. Among the debuts, Fox's new reality series Unanimous was unanimously voted the top performer, riding high on Idol's coattails Wednesday, while the crime dramas The Evidence on ABC and Heist on NBC didn't bring out the best in each other in their first face-off in the Wednesday 10 p.m. slot. Airing behind the results show of American Idol (27.7 million viewers, 11.4 rating/27 share among adults 18-49), Unanimous (16 million, 7.1/16) scored the highest retention of Idol demo lead-in for a series premiere or a special in about two years and tied ABC's Lost for the top spot in adults 18-49 in the 9:30-10 p.m. half-hour, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
