The polls are closing across the country at different times, and the sudden switch to doing nothing makes life difficult for both campaigns. From early on, it's clear that the election will be too close to call, and will likely come down to the candidates's home states of Texas and California. Meanwhile, friends and colleagues react with shock and bewilderment at the news of Leo's sudden trip to hospital. Written by Murray Chapman

The Santos house features three different staircases in three different episodes. In The West Wing: Impact Winter (2004), the staircase inside the front door to the house can be seen leading away from the door to the left of the hall. In The West Wing: Running Mates (2006), the staircase can be seen coming down from left to right behind the door in a number of scenes, In The West Wing: Election Day: Part 1 (2006) and The West Wing: Election Day: Part 2 (2006), the staircase has changed yet again, now curving upwards from the right of the door. Either Helen Santos has been doing some extensive remodeling, or different sets were used in each episode. See more »

When the Vinick campaign is announcing that they have called Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and North & South Dakota, the campaign manager writes a 6 in Nebraska when the man on the phone says Kansas - before he announces Nebraska - and a 5 in Kansas when he says Nebraska. She switched the states; Nebraska is north of Kansas and has 5 electoral votes while Kansas is the southern neighbor of Nebraska and has 6. See more »

I can hardly believe it, Mathew Santos is the next President of these United States! I must congratulate both Senator Vinick and President-Elect Santos on their great campaigns. Campaigns and Elections are the basis of democracy as we know it, and both of these gentlemen have made sure that the voices of the citizens has been heard.

I can't believe that NBC has decided to cancel The West Wing. This show has educated people on how politics work, while at the same time presenting us with worthwhile entertainment. I would love to see what happens during the Santos Administration, but it would never be the same without John Spencer as Leo. Thanks NBC, and I can't wait until the final episode in a few weeks.
