Dishonour Among Thieves

John Le Mesurier is Mr Sparrow, a bent, tight fisted solicitor who defrauds both the Inland Revenue and his own clients. Three of his poorly paid employees, played by Peter Vaughan, Peter Butterworth, and Jo Rowbottom, confront him with damning evidence and blackmail him, demanding either vastly increased salaries or a lump sum.

After initial outrage Mr S accepts their demands, and with his upper class manner even appears to be regaining the upper hand. He advises against spending their blackmail money all at once and generously gives them keys to three unused bank security boxes to stash their loot. Does he have an ace up his sleeve, such as duplicate keys, or is it a red herring? Plot hole pedants would cavil at one far fetched coincidence but it's a fast paced story with twists and turns and a great cast.

Le Mesurier appears in another Armchair Theatre production Long Past Glory (1963) which is also currently online. But it's almost all talk and no action, I would rate it 5 at best.
