How the West was Lost
hellraiser712 April 2021
This episode isn't a favorite of mine but it's a good one that I feel is worth a shot.

This western wasn't a bad idea, but the problem was it wasn't shooting straight, which makes the whole film was just one big misfire. The main protagonist isn't bad but there is one huge problem, she sucks as she doesn't really save let alone protect anyone in town which renders her whole role, pursuit and the story practically pointless; let alone certain plans she makes aren't very good and of course as you can easily guess go to hell in a handbasket. There is also this one-character Miro whom is despite being an interesting character with some depth really doesn't make much sense to the story as you don't know where his loyalties lie; let alone there is this supposed chemistry between Rose and him but it amounts to nothing much like the whole film.

Anyway, back on target. Really like what Joel and the Bots react when the title of the film pops up that simply made me laugh along with the rest of the title sequence which is all animated which looks like the animation for the intro to TV show "Wild Wild West" which is a lot better than this movie. There are some memorable riffs, like what Tom says about the Pony Express being so fast and yet so slow. Even on thing he says about Roger Corman during a cat salon fight scene. What they say about the dance girls/henchwomen in the salon who are probably the only good thing about the film, if you can believe that.

However, the highlights were seeing what Joel and the Bots say about each date the film takes place where just one spontaneous thing happens after another, their riffs make each day memorable.

Host segments are solid and honorable mention in my book, from Joel and the Bots are playing some sort of game where it's a race for the first one to make Servo's head pop; it cracks me up when Crow along with Gipsy and Joel they join in a chorus where they say, "Pop him, pop him, pop pop pop!" And Servo is acting all scared. Though with the blown-up head Servo has accumulated all the knowledge in the universe and yet can only ask one trivial question for one 80's TV show (yeah I remember that show, no big loss on my shoulders).

The coffin fitting where the bots and Joel are each trying out their coffins. Crow riding Gypsy like a horse and acting as a pony express rider, though both really wouldn't have far to travel. Though this is one of my favorite host segments mainly from Servo whom suddenly seems to have superpowers and it's just funny how he just explains and does it which also correlates with an continuity error in the film.

You can't misfire with this episode as it has plenty of ammo for hilarity.

Another great episode!

My favorite segment in this is probably the part where they're all in the caskets. Then again, the one where Tom Servo warps space and time is quite funny too. I guess I got my counting wrong. I thought Mike was in the episodes of this season. I guess it's just hard to count the seasons. This is indeed the first Western that these guys ever riffed on. It's great to make new kinds of jokes like this. There are just too many classics to remember. Gypsy just sounds hilarious when she's singing. Maybe my favorite parts are jokes about the guy putting the gun in his pants to the point of hurting his crotch.

That guy does look like Mr. Driesdale. I'm glad I get the more obscure references. Well, it's always hard to tell. The most memorable joke might be when she says, "She wouldn't dare show her face", to which Tom says, "Doodley doodley doodley, her face!". It's hard to remember the exact lines these guys use. Anything with the dancers was great. I believe it was "dirty spank, dirty spank" or something at first. ****
