It's All Greek to Scooby

Warning: Spoilers
This was an interesting idea, the modern series likes to have the gang travelling to all sorts of locations, and what better place for the mystery gang than the mythological gold mine than is Greece!

Lock the door it's a centaur

Season 2 was a pretty solid season for 'What's New Scooby Doo', where even the weakest episode "Homeward Hound" ("A Large Dragon at Large" wasn't too far behind though) was decent. The season also had some truly great episodes such as "Mummy Scares Best", "The San Franpsycho" and "Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman". Not a bad episode in the season, and actually that is true of 'What's New Scooby Doo', a show that has grown on me, in general.

"It's All Greek to Scooby" is a very good episode, not one of the best Season 2 or 'What's New Scooby Doo' episodes but also not one of the worst on either count. Of all the few episodes of Scooby Doo set in Greece, others being 'Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo's' "Lock the Door it's a Minotaur" and 'The New Scooby Doo Mysteries' "The Stoney Glare Stare", "It's All Greek to Scooby" is among the better ones and certainly better than those two. The mystery isn't the best, but the setting, humour and the different villain makes up for it.

Absolutely loved the exotic Greek setting, which is portrayed in an equally exotic way without resorting to cultural stereotyping. Also loved the humour, which was goofy in an endearing way but never feels forced or cheesy. Always love it when there is a phrase book is involved and mispronunciations and wrong phrases abound, can so relate to that (can't count the number of times someone has been at the receiving end of my language mistakes and miscomprehensions while abroad).

Did like the villain and it was interesting to have a type of villain not seen before and a type of character usually associated with being good. Do find minotaurs a good deal creepier though if to be honest, or even Medusas. The animation is colourful and richly detailed, apart from some odd animation in the maze scene, and the music is infectious while never feeling out of place. A lot of energy can be seen here and the final trap is quite genius, nice Greek mythology touches here.

Did though find the mystery a bit on the ehh side, entertaining enough but fairly flimsy until picking up the pace in the more adventure-oriented final third and a little predictable at the end. As aforementioned the animation in the maze scene is pretty odd in my personal view and like that scene was made somewhere else at a lower production price and with a tighter deadline.

On the whole, very well done and the best of the Greece-set episodes of the franchise. Even if not a Scooby Doo classic. 8/10.

No mention of Greek yogurt

Warning: Spoilers
I haven't seen much of this Scooby-Doo episode of the series as of recently I'm starting to find it interesting.

Shaggy finds and buy some amulet which he considers to bring him good luck (even I would be in his situation) only Shaggy is followed by an archaeologist (with an appearance to Indiana Jones, and reminds me of Melbourne O'Reilly) and a living centaur of Greece.

I'm not sure why the gang and other characters believe as to whether Atlantis will ever be discovered. There should've been some other reason why the Amulet is important. And the monster turns out to be the archaeologist's assistant as Velma mentions they never met her.

Surely, as the gang have the centaur captured, us viewers surely know their prime suspect, Major Portsmouth, isn't the monster as by the aerial shot of the centaur trapped in the maze while Major was seen at exit with the Mystery Gang.

It's all Greek to Scooby.

When Scooby and the gang are on vacation in Greece they are faced against the centaur who is looking for a valuable artifact.

They gang then investigates more into the story and why the centaur is after them

They look for clues and find what they are looking for when they set a trap for the centaur and capture him but he does not sound like what he seems.

This episode wasn't bad it will remind you of nowhere to Hyde also.

My Review of "It's All Greek to Scooby" Episode from 'What's New, Scooby-Doo?'
hdoerr-0210810 January 2024
In my recent viewing of this episode from the show, I couldn't help but feel a little letdown. While the initial setup of the gang traveling to Greece and encountering a mythical creature seemed promising, the episode could have delivered more on its potential. The jokes and gags that usually land well in other episodes fell flat in this one, and the mystery itself could have been more engaging. The animation and voice acting were as solid as ever, but overall, the episode felt missing something special that makes a great Scooby-Doo episode. While it is still worth watching, especially for show fans, there are better episodes out there to spend your time on.
