Storyline

DI Gil Mayo and the team are on the case when Cecil Willard is found, by the aptly named Reverend Beaver, clubbed to death with a large brass candle in the church. The elderly gentleman was wheelchair-bound after having suffered a stroke. He was cared for by his daughter Laura and she in turn is having a affair with the married Marcus Illingworth. Cecil didn't like Illingworth going out with his daughter and was opposed to him being promoted at Serenity Lodge Residential home, a residence facility for the elderly, where he was Illingworth's boss. Early on the day of his death, he met with Sebastian Oliver, a friend of the family who wanted to tell him that he was about to marry Ellie Waterstone. Cecil's protégé at the lodge was Janet Reece who happens to be Sebastian's ex-girlfriend. Cecil also had another appointment the morning of his death with someone named Sara.
