Having found Jefferson Pierce last week with the casting of Cress Williams (Hart of Dixie), The CW’s latest DC pilot Black Lightning has now added two more additions in Nafessa Williams (Code Black) and China Anne McClain (House of Payne).
Deadline is reporting that McCain will play Jefferson’s younger daughter, the teenage Jennifer Pierce, an independent, outspoken scholar-athlete with a wild streak of her own, while Williams will potray Anissa Pierce — passionate and quick-witted, Jefferson’s twenty-something daughter balances the demands of medical school with her job teaching part-time at her father’s school. In the comic books, the two characters will eventually become superheroes themselves, under the names Thunder and Lightning.

A Dog's Purpose is based on the bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron of the same name and directed by Lasse Hallström. Josh Gad (Disney's Beauty and the Beast 2017) voices the central dog character with Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland, The Longest Ride), Kj Apa (Riverdale), John Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook, American Gangster), Juliet Rylance (Sinister, The Knick), Luke Kirby (The Astronaut Wives Club), Peggy Lipton (When in Rome, Twin Peaks), Pooch Hall (The Game, Ray Donovan) and Dennis Quaid pitching in on the human side.
Controversy struck A Dog's Purpose before its cinematic release in the form of a purported dog abuse video taken during production. That didn't stop the modestly budgeted $22 million film from earning nearly $80 million at the worldwide box office. »

The series was originally given a pilot commitment from Fox, which houses DC Comics shows Gotham and Lucifer. However, news broke last night that the series could be moving to the CW, home to all of Berlanti’s “Arrowverse” shows, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Fox felt the series wouldn’t fit well within its stable of drama series, which includes an upcoming X-Men pilot to be directed by Bryan Singer.
The Black Lightning pilot will be written by husband and wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, whose previous credits include The Game and Being Mary Jane. They will executive produce alongside Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. The show will follow Jefferson Pierce, »

The sixth annual Atx Television Festival has added a second batch of panels and events to the 2017 fest.
“Alias” die-hards can get their fill of stories from the writers of the best spy show of the 2000s, as the organizers are bringing together “Alias” scribes Ken Olin, Lawrence Trilling, Sarah Caplan, Monica Breen, Jeff Pinkner, Andre Nemec, and Josh Appelbaum for a writers’ room reunion. Additional panelists will be announced at a later date.
Atx’s annual tradition of hosting a community screening, open to badgeholders and non-badgeholders alike, will this year feature “Parks and Recreation,” and take place the evening of Friday, June 9, at Hotel San Jose. The event will include live music, food and drink from Jo’s Coffee and other local vendors, and additional activities inspired by Pawnee’s annual “Harvest Festival.”

Despite receiving a big production commitment at Fox, Deadline reports that Black Lightning is on its way to The CW. The network already hosts Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, iZombie, and Riverdale, but a new comic book property being added to its lineup is surprising considering the fact that the network's president has said he doesn't want it to become known just for those. Greg Berlanti is developing the series alongside The Game and Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil. Fox decided against shooting the pilot after deciding "that the superhero show was not a good fit into its already crowded genre drama space that includes the DC/Wbtv series Gotham and Lucifer, Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming space dramedy, and two pilots, the X-Men-themed drama written by Matt Nix and The Passage, all from 20th TV." That makes sense! One of the »

I’ve learned that Black Lightning, the high-profile drama based on the DC character, which had a big production commitment at Fox, is on the move and likely to land at the CW.
