Funny and touching

Warning: Spoilers
If you like your humor dark, this is for you! A quirky group of damaged people (plus one normie, just for contrast) find unusual and satisfying ways to deal with their problems. And when I say damaged, I really mean damaged - the main characters are a pair of brothers whose parents were killed in a car wreck. The boys are shunted among uncaring relatives until the older one turns 18 and gains custody of the younger. There's genuine caring between the brothers although the older one is overprotective to the nth degree. In the end, though, everyone finds their own kind of redemption. My only complaint is the visuals were a little annoying at time - flashes of light, weirdly-timed fades. Overall, a great find!

For fans of the darkly bittersweet...

This movie touched me on many levels. It was funny, moving, intriguing, and it made me care about the characters I was seeing on screen. Not everyone will "get" this film, but many will love it--my friend and I certainly did. The lead performance by Zach Hanks anchors the film, and he's surrounded by an array of interesting actors. Anna Chlumsky is so beautiful and touching in her role as Chloe...this is my favorite Anna role since "My Girl". Several of the other performers give funny (and nicely bittersweet)performances. For such a low-budget film, the cinematography was lovely. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes a dollop of dark comedy blended with bittersweet romance. (Note: "Harold and Maude" is my favorite movie...so this film is right up my alley.)

This is one of those hidden jewels. Dark funny and touching. I loved it. If you wish a great show try this film. The characters of Burk and Sam show a depth of understanding that most brothers would envy. Anna Chlumsky is breathtaking. The cast is really well put together. I have one Question....the one who played Patrick....is really Scottish or just pretty good with an accent? I hope you take the time to watch this really cool film. It was filmed on location in Myrtle Beach S.C., before they tore down the old park. The film Looks beautiful. It fells real. The story was gleaned from the lives of those involved. True stories tied together with imagination. Matt Jordan is a genius.

Warning: Spoilers
My Sweet Misery is the story a group of really messed up people coping with their problems by drinking, smoking and tormenting each other--often simultaneously. At the story's center are Sam and Burke, two brothers who only have each other. Burke's pathological over protectiveness and propensity for violence mixed with Sam's resigned acceptance and melancholy are such a great combination that it draws both laughter and sorrow. Throughout it all, Sam's therapist--a figment of his imagination who laments not being imagined as someone cooler--provides a mechanism through which Sam can dissect his own life and determine what he really wants out it.

In the end we see that underneath all the trauma and baggage, the characters are all redeemed in some way as they realize they deserve to be happy and do something to grab that which makes them happy--be it another person or just a bagpipe.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film and hope it finds wider release.

Excetllent display of family dysfunction meets overbearing ...

This is a great movie with good acting and a great score!! The filmography is superb. Its not everyday that a movie can take one through so many emotions and My Sweet Misery did just that for me. The chemistry between the main actors is well done. The script and direction is executed with style. The film makes you laugh. The film makes you cry. The films makes you angry. The film makes you ponder. The film is one of a kind. I'll buy the film when it comes to DVD. The movie should be on a premium channel. The only down side may be the over use of profanity but its probably necessary in getting the point across.
