Paradise Regained (2006)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This French documentary on Brian DePalma's PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE is without question the definitive look at the cult classic as it not only features DePalma being interviewed but we also get William Finley, Gerrit Graham, Paul Williams, Jessica Harper, Peter Elbling and many others involved in the film. Shout Factory! did a Special Edition of this film and included many new featurettes but this documentary from 2006 is without question the jewel on the release. DePalma talks about writing the screenplay, getting it produced, the problems during the production and then the lawsuits that happened after it was finished. Each of the cast members talk about how they were hired and what exactly they brought to their roles. From here we hear countless behind-the-scenes stories on the making of the picture and many talk about why the film didn't do all that well at the box office when it was originally released. Fans of the film will certainly want to check this one out.
