Clever Deceptions Within The Subject Film Reduced To A Routine Level By Cursorily Done Documentary.

The SPOTLIGHT ON LOCATION: MAKING OF.... series developed at Universal Studios for inclusion as extra features for that company's principal DVD releases, is here typically sparse in its approach to K-PAX, a highly satisfying production, with only brief interview appearances by Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges included as saving remnants for this abbreviated (12 min.) affair. While admittedly a thorny challenge for a documentarian, the parent work in any event provides a good deal of substance, and whereas this MAKING OF.... segment is not particularly entertaining, or even instructive, several other bonus features contained within the DVD package, in particular a voice-over commentary given by director of K-PAX Iain Softley, are of substantial merit. Although there is little enough here with which to salvage this somewhat flabbily put together piece, a viewer must yet acknowledge the value of some interesting behind scenes footage, along with snippets of interviews with engaged principals, notably co-leads Bridges and Spacey.
