Touching episode

Dante (a strong and moving performance by Michael Pare) and Lucretia (sound work by Claudette Roche) encounter a Raider with a boy who might be Dante's missing son while hunting a pair of con artists on Mars. Meanwhile, back on the Tulip Percy (winningly played with plucky vitality by Tanya Allen) gets trapped in Dante's virtual reality device that simulates his deceased wife Penny (a haunting portrayal by the lovely Heather Belle-Matmor). This episode does a cool job of introducing the nefarious Raiders, a bunch of angry guys who are given a credible and not entirely hateful reason for abducting children (they were rendered sterile by an experimental drug that was tested on them). Moreover, this particular outing further benefits from funny turns by Phillipe Simon as shrewd weasel Etienne and Joseph Clark as his whiny fed-up partner Brad; their constant bickering is a real hoot to watch. Murray Melvin is likewise in fine form as prissy hologram Caravaggio and Marc Belliveau impresses as bitter Raider Telus. But it's Dante's need and desire to find his son and deep-seated love for his dead wife which gives this episode its considerable wrenching poignancy.
