Homer can't decide which is more important: going through a counseling seminar to save his marriage, or skipping out to catch a legendary fish. Back at home, Bart and Lisa try to take advantage of Grandpa, who is their babysitter.

At the gathering in the beginning of this episode, Homer eventually gets drunk to the point of dancing on the couch with a lampshade on his head and saying "I'm the funniest guy in the world!" Reverend Lovejoy is sitting on the couch when Homer falls over and has his drink spilled on him. In the next shot where Marge looks irritated, Reverend Lovejoy is also in the background (somewhere besides sitting on the couch) looking shocked. See more »

Clerk: Yep, General Sherman. They say he's five hundred pounds of bottom-dwelling fury, don't you know. No one knows how old he is, but if you ask me, and most people do, he's hundred years if he's a day.
Customer: And, uh, no one's ever caught him?
Clerk: Well, one fella came close. Went by the name of Homer. Seven feet tall he was, with arms like tree trunks. His eyes were like steel: cold, hard. Had a shock of hair, red, like the fires of Hell.

Solid Episode!
2 May 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

The twentieth episode in the second season of the Simpsons is a fairly good one that has some amusing moments. It's another one of those episodes where the marriage of Homer and Marge seems to be in disarray and we seem to be getting many of these episodes in the first two seasons. But nonetheless, this was a solid and funny episode.

In this episode, "The War of the Simpsons," Homer embarrasses Marge at a party so they head off to a mountain retreat with Reverend Lovejoy for couples counseling. Much to the anger of Marge, Homer decides to go fishing to capture the legendary General Sherman. Meanwhile, Bart and Lisa throws a huge party while under the care of Grampa.

Overall, this is a solid episode. I loved the interaction between Homer and the fish, Sherman. Definitely the best part of this episode. I rate this episode 9/10.
