Quotes

Gabe Kotter: James Buchanan is not anywhere. It's in Bensonhurst, which is in Brooklyn, which is where I spent four degenerate years as a student. You know how rough that is? The gangs there don't use guns. They insert the bullets manually.

Great To See The 'Sweathogs' Again!
25 January 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Wow, it was great to see all these characters again, watching this episode the other night. It's hard to believe 35 years have passed since this pilot episode was on television.

"Vinnie Barbarino, Juan Epstein, Freddie 'Boom Boom' Washington" and, of course, "Arnold Horshack." Those kids, along with Gabe Kaplan as "Gabe Kotter," teacher of "The Sweathogs" brought back a lot of good memories and a lot of laughs.

This pilot episode gives us a little sample of all the main characters, which also include Kotter's wife "Julie" (Marica Strassman) and the school principal "Mr. Woodman" (John Sylvester White).

The humor is still excellent and I laughed out a loud a handful of times at some wisecrack by one of the students. Epstein, in particular, had some funny lines and Horschack with his laugh and his imitation of the "the hunchback of Notre Dame" were priceless.

This pilot episode was one of the best ever in this great TV series from the 1970s.
