Rising star Noel Clarke, Claire Danes in London, and hard liquor at the Bifa awards | Trailer trash

5 December 2009 4:10 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The jury's out

Trash had the pleasure of being on the Bafta jury to decide this year's Orange Rising Star Award nominees. It was an impressively intense process, whittling down 117 candidates until 18 remained. These were then vigorously debated: is being in Twilight a good or bad thing? Do we count debuts or only those with growing bodies of work? Will the voting public recognise a foreign actor if we put one forward? Anyway, our votes are now in for the final five nominees who'll be announced on 12 January, sparking a public vote via www.orange.co.uk/bafta. Current holder Noel Clarke is on the jury this year and is in no doubt how much of a boost the Orsa gave him last year. "In terms of recognition and respect within the industry, it's amazing how much it does for you," he told me. "A whole new public saw me winning, »

Claire Danes Thinks Everyone Should Get Married And Be Happy

4 December 2009 5:46 AM, PST | Gossipvita | See recent Gossipvita news »

The actress – who wed her 'Evening' co-star Hugh Dancy at a secret ceremony in France in September – is content with her relationship and believes other people should tie the knot in order to be as happy as she is.

She said: “It feels wonderful. I’m recommending marriage. It’s still very new but there’s a kind of deep security that I’m really enjoying. My parents have been happily married since they were 21, so I have been lucky to have them as a model.” The 30-year-old actress is currently starring in ‘Me and Orson Welles’ alongside Zac Efron, where she plays career-hungry production assistant Sonja Jones, and admits she was in awe of the opinionated character. Irish-American Bill Murray says no one ‘claimed’ him in Ireland (IrishCentral)

9 November 2009 8:42 AM, PST | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

Bill Murray is making the media rounds promoting the new animation film “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” and last week he made his way to Ireland. The famous Irish-American actor is the voice of Badger in the movie adaptation of the Roald Dahl story, in which George Clooney and Meryl Streep also lend their voices. The film marks Murray’s fifth collaboration with “The Royal Tenenbaums” director Wes Anderson. Murray falls perfectly into place with the all-star lineup, but he revealed to Ireland’s Evening Herald how low key he is about the idea of “celebrity.” The actor showed up to the interview alone – no publicists, no assistants, no agents. "I like to travel by myself,” he said. “Having to travel with others makes me nervous. I like to think I'm self-sufficient and who really needs to have all those kinds of people around anyway? They just irritate everyone." Murray claims he »

10 Most Fascinating 'End of the World' Movies

8 November 2009 4:59 AM, PST | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

There are many theories, ideas or should I say 'schools of thought' on how the world would end. At the height of the Cold War, nuclear annihilation ranks at the very top. While others argue it will not be man who will destroy the world (directly) but - an epidemic of global proportions (most probably from a potent strain of virus - think: I am Legend) or severe climactic change (another ice age perhaps? That would be Day After Tommorow right?) or mechanical uprising (The Terminator, anyone?) or even attack from the outside - conquering aliens (Mars Attacks!) or perhaps an asteroid. And let's not forget zombies!

Gold Derby nuggets: Jude Law loses 'Hamlet' duel | '24' brings back evil ex-prez | Roger Friedman: Grammys field fallow

• The long lists for the Evening Standard theater kudos saluting the best of London's West End have been released. Jude Law was snubbed for his "Hamlet" at the Donmar Warehouse, but "Doctor Who" star David Tennant earned a nod for playing the desolate Dane at the RSC. Other men in contention include Sir Ian McKellen ("Waiting for Godot") and Kevin Spacey ("Inherit the Wind"). Among those women competing for the newly named Natasha Richardson award for best actress are Deanna Dunagan, for reprising her Tony-winning role as one mean mama in "August: Osage County"; Amy Morton for once more playing Dunagan's put-upon daughter; and Rachel Weisz, who recently wowed as Blanche in a revival... »

The Gene Pool Gets An Upgrade: Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy Wed

30 September 2009 12:32 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The 2007 movie Evening received bad reviews and was seen by about eight people, but it appears that one good thing came from the production. AP reports that beautiful actress Claire Danes has married her co-star from that film, equally beautiful actor Hugh Dancy. Combined, the pair are so pretty that if you look directly at them, you'll permanently scar your corneas.

For those of you who enjoy a whiff of scandal with your celebrity news, the Claire/Dancy (should we call them "Clancy?") romance began amid rumors that Danes entered the liaison while still involved with boyfriend Billy Crudup. This was only interesting because when Danes and Crudup began dating, there were rumors that she'd broken up Crudup's relationship with a then-pregnant Mary-Louise Parker. Whether any of this is true is anyone's guess, but when exceptionally lovely people break up and then start sleeping with other lovely people, the tabloids start sharpening their sticks. »
