Robert is a pain in the a@$!
21 January 2009 | by (Greensboro, NC) – See all my reviews

This show is from Season 4 - Episode #21. Season 4 is one of my favorite of all their seasons. By this time, the cast has really worked out their personalities and the writers were hitting their stride in the humor department (unlike the last couple seasons where it seems they were running out of material).

Ray visits the doctor and finds out he still has 3 more weeks of recovery (from the bull that gored his derrière )and will have to stay with his parents another 3 weeks. This was NOT what he wanted to hear and is rather upset about it. It begins to show as he starts getting cranky with everyone.

Debra takes it upon herself to try to cheer Robert up by making a big deal over his birthday. But Robert continues snapping at everyone. Even when Ray tries to cheer him up, he accuses Ray of being their mom's lap dog - doing all her bidding for her. He calls Ray "princess". There are a lot of funny moments here as the whole family bickers at one another.

Robert even resorts to torturing his folks by hiding their prize possessions under his fanny "donut" pillow - like his dad's TV guide and keys, and Marie's big spoon.

Everyone has had enough of the bickering so Robert moves back to his apartment. Everything comes to a head when the family shows up there to celebrate Rpobert's birthday. Debra finally confronts Robert in his bedroom and tells him off for being a jerk. She tells him to quit playing the victim, "waa, waa, waa". Once again, she proves what a great actress she is. And when Robert finally breaks down, he shows his acting chops as well. The whole scene is hilarious as Robert finally admits that she's right. He admits that in his own sick way, he was upset that he was going to have to leave his parents - even though they get on his nerves.

This a great episode. There are a lot of funny moments and some better than usual insults hurled between family members.
