Joey and the Big Move (#2.17)
ComedyFan201018 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Joey is supposed to move into his new house but it has a fire. Nobody wants to admit who did it. So Joey goes back to move with Michael who already has his nerd friends as roommates. Joey also slips out to Jimmy that he is Michael's father. Jimmy wants to get a DNA test and after having it positive tries to connect with Michael.

I especially liked the Jimmy/Michael story. The night when Jimmy and Joey get to Michael with the knife to get some hair for the DNA test is hilarious.

The nerds in the house is also a fun part. Especially the sex questions Joey gets. "Does it hurt?"

Weak writing spoils a good episode

Warning: Spoilers
Like a few other episodes of season 2 'Joey and the Big Move' has a good premise that runs out of steam quickly.

Having spent so much of the season building up to his move, it feels like a massive anti-climax for Joey's new house to burn down. Perhaps if there were to have been a Season 3 it may not have done, with the action would have been split between Joey's house and Michael living with his friends. 'The Big Bang Theory' has since proved that the idea of geeks living together can be funny, but alas it was not to be.

The subplot of Jimmy learning that Michael is his son works generally OK, but is spoilt by some lazy writing at times. Again the question could also be asked about why Joey needs to be involved in it as well. What is lovely to see though is the dynamic between Matt Le Blanc and Adam Goldberg.

This episode does mark the last appearance of Miguel A Nunez Jr as Zach, although the character has little to do here. The writers never seemed to know what to do with the character as time went on, and despite some good moments either the powers that be either wanted to reduce the ensemble around Joey or either that Nunez Jr was jumping an already sunk ship.

Overall, some weak jokes let down a potentially good episode. There is a clear sense of the show winding down towards the end though.
