Conan is an old friend of series producer Greg Daniels, having worked together as writers on Not Necessarily the News (1982) and The Simpsons (1989), and was a friend of the show. At the 2006 Emmy Awards, Conan is the one who announced that "The Office" had won Outstanding Comedy Series (for its second season) and his delight is apparent.

Charles Esten appears in this episode as Stamford Branch manager Josh Porter. Charles (also known as Chip) used to be a regular cast member on the popular improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1998), which is one of Michael Scott's favorite TV shows.
