Storyline

Entering Neon Town, a bustling Metropolis where everyone is tired and rude, Ash and his friends find a Jigglypuff who is too shy to sing its hypnotic song. Realizing they can kill two birds with one stone, Misty tries to teach the Jigglypuff to sing while Team Rocket attempts to record the song so they can use it against Ash. Everyone falls asleep, including Ash and his friends and Team Rocket, and a miffed Jigglypuff uses the marker hidden in her microphone to draw on everyone's sleeping faces. Hi, new running gag

Oops, I missed this one while binge watching old episodes of "Pokémon". With this one, I have now officially seen every episode of the first season of "Pokémon". For reals, this time! This introduces us to one of the most noted pokemon, Jigglypuff. I always did wonder where it got those markers from that it uses to draw on people's faces. It turns out it just got them from Ash's backpack. I don't know why he'd have one of those on him in the first place, but whatever. This episode's setup was pretty weird, with how they went to a city of rude people.

Actually, I thought that bit was treated rather realistically. I...don't know what's up with this one scene where a fat woman spanks Jessie. Let's just ignore that. It's great to see the origin of such a popular character in the mythology, especially in the anime. I like how they set up how Jigglypuff will make more appearances. I remember back when the pokemon series had three episodes on a single VHS tape. I don't know if those even exist anymore and while I didn't have any myself, it's quite nostalgic. ***1/2
