Storyline

Irene gives Gloria a replica of Rodin's statue "The Kiss" which she immediately falls in love with. Archie is offended by the nudity, sparking a debate with Mike and Gloria over what is art and what is filth. In their absence, Archie gives the statue to Frank who is stunned that Irene gave it to Gloria in the first place. Gloria is outraged and refuses to speak to her father. As an apology, Archie buys her a peace offering, a horrendous statue of a woman with a fish on her head. Gloria hates the statue but loves her father for the gesture. This great episode from this great show revolves around a famous piece of art called "The Kiss" from Rodin, as it was either loaned or given as a gift to Gloria by Irene(Betty Garrett), although her husband Frank(Vincent Gardenia)wasn't asked about it first, as he loves that work of art. This rare discussion between the Lorenzo's in their house was very funny, and Gardenia really shines in this scene, as he takes exception to being called a "raving Italian" by his wife. Archie doesn't want the reproduction "reproducing" in his house, and gives it back to Frank, much to the chagrin of Gloria, who decides to ignore her father. A scene or 2 later, Archie brings home this hideous looking statue of a naked woman playing a ukulele, with a fish on her head; Gloria ends up hating it, but the Lorenzo's were also there to give her a gift(swanky see-through nightgown), but Irene, without Gloria noticing, handed their gift for Archie to give Gloria, which she was pleasantly surprised and Archie was embarrassed. During this scene, Archie says in a serious manner that, "daughters should be talking to their fathers", right before he gives her the gift. Gloria eventually figures out who gave her what gifts, and even though she "hates" what her dad got her, she still appreciates what he and the Lorenzo's both bought her. This is a great episode, especially with the additions of Frank and Irene to an already solid cast.
