Unusual psychological domestic thriller
14 January 2009 | by (Liverpool, England) – See all my reviews

Just a warning for anyone who might think that this is a family friendly film. I was surprised to find the DVD of the movie had been given the Italian rating T (Film per tutti = Film for all) as it is liberally sprinkled with strong language and adult themes. Film certification aside I found this to be an interesting and unusual movie which could well repay a second viewing. So what is it about? Basically the movie charts the after effects of a marriage break-up on a man, his wife & their son. Their individual responses to that break up are completely different. The ex-husband has moved out of the family home and has a steady girlfriend but his new relationship is haunted by the spectre of his marriage. He just can't forgive his former partner for her infidelity, which he sees as the cause of their divorce. He wants custody of their son. The ex-wife wants to move on but is still reliant on her former husband's financial support. She lands a job working for a phone sex line to help make ends meet. Luca, their son, is a reserved boy who spends a great deal of his time in the company of his imaginary brother. Tommi is the sort of boy that Luca wishes he was; forceful, confident and in control. But let's not forget that this movie is also a thriller. Who is the man who repeatedly calls the phone sex line to torment the woman with descriptions of how he'd like to harm her son? Who is the driver of the car that she is convinced is following her? And why are the police questioning Luca at the beginning of the movie, although he claims the blame lies with Tommi? Well, rather than give it all away I'd suggest that if you are at all interested you should watch it and find out for yourself.
