FX Spinoff Mayans Mc Sets Sarah Bolger As Female Lead

10 March 2017 7:11 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Casting on FX’s Mayans Mc pilot is really beginning to heat up, what with Edward James OlmosJohn Ortiz, Antonio Jaramillo, Clayton Cardenas and American Crime standout Richard Cabral all on board to star.

A spinoff to the Sons of Anarchy saga – it takes place soon after that heart-wrenching season 7 finale, nixing rumors that FX was actually rustling up a prequel – and we now have word that Mayans Mc has located its female lead: Irish actress Sarah Bolger. Deadline has the scoop, confirming that the Into the Badlands star has landed the role of Emily, the “beautiful ‘guera’ [Mexican slang for ‘white girl’, or ‘light-haired girl’] next door and childhood sweetheart of Ez. But when Romeo departed, this Juliet didn’t unsheathe the dagger; she traded it in for diamond studs and a mansion on the hill.”

Bolger has signed on just in time, too, given production is expected to commence in the coming weeks. Should FX order Mayans Mc to series, »

4.19 On The Eve & 4.20 The Reckoning

On The Eve and The Reckoning finish out this rocky season’s primary storylines, and it’s a fair mixture of good and not-so-great. That’s unfortunate because this season gives us a hint of how the show will do without Ragnar in the ascendant… or even on screen. There is more than a little reason to suspect that the move from what was essentially one man’s story to a narrative with no clear protagonist will be a struggle for Hirst to manage for the longer haul.

And this is essentially where most of the weaknesses that »

The Oa: Netflix renews for season 2

Netflix has renewed its recent surprise supernatural drama The Oa...

Netflix really dropped a bombshell last December: after only a few oblique social media teases, they debuted the trailer for mysterious supernatural series The Oa the week of the show’s premiere. Having resonated with audiences, Netflix has no need for more PR cloak and dagger when it comes to The Oa, though... proven by the fact they just greenlit season 2 and announced it publicly straight off the bat.

‘The OA’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

8 February 2017 7:45 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Netflix has greenlit “The OA” for a second season, just eight weeks after the first installment of the mind-bending supernatural drama debuted.

The OA” is written and produced by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. In the series, Marling stars as Prairie Johnson, a young blind woman who returns to her hometown after an unexplained seven-year absence — her eyesight restored and now calling herself “The OA.” She refuses to talk about her disappearance with anyone except four teenage boys and their high school teacher, sharing an incredible story involving her past identities, abduction and transdimensional travels in order to recruit them for a mysterious mission.

Netflix released season one of “The OA,” comprising eight one-hour episodes, on Dec. 16 with hardly any advance publicity.

In addition to Marling, the series cast includes Emory Cohen (“Brooklyn”), Scott Wilson (“The Walking Dead”), Phyllis Smith (“The Office”), Jason Isaacs (the “Harry Potter” films), Alice Krige (“Star Trek: First Contact”), Patrick Gibson »

Vikings: Season Finale - Major Deaths And The Fallout

2 February 2017 11:23 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Disclaimer: Spoiler Alert!

Wow. At first I was slow to get into this show, but now I am on-board more than ever. In fact, this show may actually one-up Game of Thrones in the ability to take a major character death and develop it into an even greater story. This epic started with the farm boy Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), and followed his kingly career path all the way to his death in season 4. Think about this for a second; he dies in season 4, not in season 1 like Eddard Stark did in Game of Thrones, and Vikings has gotten better each episode this late in the "game". We had even more deaths in this episode of Vikings, and I will start with the most shocking.

Once Helga entered the hall with her "adoptive daughter" (read prisoner), I had suspicions that something tragic was about to happen. Oh and it did in the worst way. »

‘Vikings’ Season 4 Finale: Michael Hirst on Shocking Deaths, Series’ Possible End (Spoilers)

1 February 2017 7:01 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoilers for those who haven’t seen Wednesday night’s Season 4 finale of “Vikings.”

The sons of Ragnar, different and yet all so like their father, have been united by a single purpose these last few episodes of Season 4: to avenge their father’s death at the hands of King Aelle and, by proxy, King Ecbert (Linus Roache). But they all seem to have different ideas about what to do next — settle down in East Anglia, go back to raiding, sail to yet further shores. And it’s all complicated by Ivar (Alex Høgh) throwing an axe into his brother Sigurd (David Lindström), bringing the finale’s main character body count up to three. “Vikings” creator Michael Hirst called up Variety to talk about what’s next.

Will anything happen to Ivar? One would think kinslaying would be a pretty serious deal.

Ivar’s in a special position, he always has been. I »
