Gone Girl’s Kim Dickens Cast as Female Lead in The Walking Dead Companion Series

23 December 2014 9:36 AM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Last week it was revealed that The Walking Dead companion series will initially take place in Los Angeles, and early this month it was reported that Cliff Curtis will take on the show’s male lead, leaving many to wonder who would be cast as the female lead. Fans don’t have to mull that one over anymore, though, as it’s been revealed that Gone Girl‘s Kim Dickens has been cast in the lead female role in the companion series.

Deadline reported the news of Kim Dickens’ casting today. Dickens recently had a fantastic turn in David Fincher’s Gone Girl as speculative Detective Rhonda Boney. Her acting credits also include recurring roles on Friday Night Lights, Lost, Deadwood, and Sons of Anarchy.

Dickens’ role in the companion series is believed to be a guidance counselor with a troubled past who works at the same school as Cliff Curtis’ divorced teacher character, »

The series follows two co-workers, a divorced teacher Cliff Curtis and a guidance counselor (Dickens), who also happen to be in a relationship together. She has two children (Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey) from a prior marriage as well as a dark past that threatens to haunt her present situation. ‘Walking Dead’ Companion Series Sets Kim Dickens as Female Lead

23 December 2014 7:08 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

AMC has set “Gone Girl” scene-stealer Kim Dickens as the female lead for the upcoming “Walking Dead” companion series pilot, Variety has confirmed.

She’ll star alongside Cliff Curtis in the spinoff, which will take place in the same universe as AMC’s blockbuster zombie hit, but on the West Coast instead of around Georgia.

Dickens is believed to be playing guidance counselor Nancy Tompkins: “A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.” Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey were previously announced and are set to play Nancy’s children — Nick, Nancy’s screwed up teenage son who is too old to stay home, but too scared to flee; and Ashley, Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter, whose ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. AMC declined to confirm character details.

Best Canadian Movies of 2014: Films and Moments That Ruled the Big Screen

22 December 2014 7:00 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Canada has a wealth of cinematic talent, and always has. From our comedic genius to our often cerebral approach to filmmaking, this country has a lot to be proud of.

Of late, and especially this year, Canada has really dominated the movies landscape. Our homegrown actors (Sarah Gadon, for example) and directors (Xavier Dolan, "Mommy") have been everywhere, earning accolades around the world. Movies shot within our borders have won rave reviews and received praise from the highest-ranked critics and film festivals.

Perhaps most outstanding is our growth. No longer are we satisfied with melancholic snow landscapes (though sometimes those still appear); we've branched out, and we're trying new things. Here, in no particular order, are my favourite Canadian movies and moments of 2014.

If you're unfamiliar with the true crime podcast that draws over 1 million listeners per week and is put on by the This American Life producers, Serial reexamines the 1999 murder of an 18-year-old Baltimore high school senior named Hae Min Lee.

Not long before Lee went missing, she had broken up with her boyfriend, then-17-year-old Adnan Syed, an honors student of the Muslim faith who was later tried and convicted for killing her. Adnan is now 33 and serving a life sentence for Hae's murder, but insists in a series of telephone interviews with producer Sarah Koenig that he's innocent.

Anyone, who like myself, is anxiously awaiting Fargo Season 2 was probably pretty happy when we finally got some news on the upcoming season of the FX anthology series last week. It was announced that Kirsten Dunst (the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films) and Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad) would be starring in Fargo Season 2, playing Peggy Blomquist, “a beautician with dreams of the big city” who is “trying to figure out who she is and what she really wants out of life” and Ed, Peggy’s husband, “a butcher’s assistant who is supportive of her quest, even if he doesn’t quite understand it.” However, while the characters that both Dunst and Plemons will be playing in Fargo Season 2 certainly intrigue me, what I find even more interesting is the decision to cast these two in such major roles in the show’s second season and how it goes against the typical… »
