Interview with Zach Gilford of The Purge: Anarchy

11 July 2014 11:34 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Zach Gilford has come a long way in his eleven year career as a Hollywood actor. His first major role was in an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Gilford’s next big break was a regular spot in the cast of the hit television show Friday Night Lights. The opportunities continued to roll in and he found himself side-by-side with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the action hero’s return to filmmaking, The Last Stand.

His most recent roles see Gilford carving out a nitch in the horror genre for himself. The actor played one of the two lead roles in Devil’s Due earlier in 2014. He’s about to be seen on the big-screen again in the highly anticipated sequel to the surprisingly successful home invasion thriller The Purge.

Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch Eye 'True Detective' Season 2

11 July 2014 7:30 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

In the dog days of summer, we sometimes feel very, very thirsty -- and not for a cool, refreshing beverage, but for any information about the upcoming second season of HBO's peerless mystery series "True Detective." So far we know that there will be four lead characters, that at least one of them will be a woman (here's hoping) and that the central mystery concerns the "secret occult history of the United States transportation system" (ohmygodsocool). But today we got our biggest bit of information yet, as it looks like HBO is zeroing in on two of the new season's leads. And yes, they are very impressive.

According to The Wrap, Colin Farrell is negotiating for the lead role in "True Detective" Season 2. According to the site, "HBO was intent on landing a true movie star," and apparently Farrell fills that role although god only knows when he had a true hit movie, »

Storming into cinemas this August, we now have some new images from disaster movie Into the Storm from Steve Quale (Final Destination 5).

Taking the disaster movie genre and giving it a found-footage twist, here’s the synopsis for Into the Storm:

In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot.

Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople, “Into the Storm” throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.

Scottish actor Gerard Butler touched down in Brazil Monday to watch the host nation face off against the fierce German national team in the semifinals of the 2014 World Cup Tuesday afternoon.

Gerard Butler Attends World Cup

Butler landed in Rio de Janiero Monday and headed to a party where he hung out with former Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch. The two were enjoying the pre-semifinal revelry in matching navy blue shirts on the roof of Hotel Budweiser in Copacabana Beach.

On Tuesday, Butler headed to the Belo Horizonte to watch the Brazil vs. Germany match where he was spotted wearing the yellow jersey of the home team. Unfortunately for Butler, he didn’t get to see a Brazil victory, as the squad fell in a shocking 1-7 defeat. The loss left Brazil fans in tears and players struggling to explain how they let the game get so far away from them. »

Five new posters for The Purge: Anarchy go live

3 July 2014 4:32 PM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Even though Ethan Hawke has moved on to lighter fare with this month’s BoyhoodThe Purge: Anarchy still has plans to invade theatres on July 18 without its former star. The sequel captures another year of the annual “Purge,” a holiday (if you can call it that) in a dystopian United States where crime is legal for twelve hours. It’s a move by the government to keep the peace year-round, but as we know from the first Purge movie, not everyone’s behind America's newest holiday.

Replacing Hawke as participants of the annual “Purge” are Frank Grillo (Captain America), Michael K. Williams(“Boardwalk Empire,” “The Wire”), and Zach Gilford (“Friday Night Lights”).

Check out five brand new posters for The Purge: Anarchy below, and don’t forget to catch the sequel on July 18 – even if it’s just to see Michael K. Williams/Omar Little/Chalky White continue being a badass. »

Just in case you missed the pilot episode of HBO's new series The Leftovers last night, you can now watch it in its entirely online right now. The show is based on the book by series co-producer Tom Perrotta, and Damon Lindelof (Lost) is the man who brought it to life for the cable network.

I thought the first episode was great! It stars Justin Theroux, who gave an incredible performance. I'm already hooked on the show, and I can't wait for next week's episode. Here's a description of the story:

When 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears without explanation, the world struggles to come to terms with what happened. Three years later, the HBO drama series, ‘The Leftovers’ is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut.

The Leftovers Series Premiere Recap: “Pilot”

Any series that starts off with a baby screaming and crying and a dog being shot is not one that seems will lend itself to levity; and indeed, The Leftovers is a very serious and very dour show.  In the deluge of reviews that landed this week about (it being based on a novel by Tom Perrotta, directed in part by Friday Night Lights' Peter Berg and overseen by Lost's Damon Lindelof), the overwhelming feeling seemed to be that The Leftovers is a show whose crushing emotional weight will either draw you in, or repel you fully.  And, if you thought it might grow out of it, well, the unrelenting sadness goes on for at least the first half of the season (which is as far as has been made available to critics).  Hit the jump for a reheating of The Leftovers (a joke I promise to make »
