A town held hostage
bkoganbing28 November 2016
David Niven, Dick Powell's producing partner in Four Star Productions stars in this Zane Grey Theater production about an itinerant book peddler who walks in on a town held hostage.

This was not an episode I was too crazy about. George Wallace is the outlaw leader who has rounded up all the citizens he can get his hands on and wants them to cough up the name of a man who had the temerity to fire back at the outlaws while they were committing a robbery. That person's shot killed Wallace's younger brother.

I find the whole thing a bit ridiculous. As an outlaw in that profession you take your chances someone will object to being robbed. Wallace would know that, he would grieve and ride on.

In any event he knows Niven had nothing to do with it. So Wallace uses Niven as a go between. In the end he proves to be the town's salvation.

Not one of the better Zane Grey features.
