Jennifer Saunders' shocked face when Rik Mayall's character opens up a sealed tampon and plays with it is genuine. In rehearsals Rik puts the unopened tampon down and says "I'll open it later. It'll make a big surprise for my birthday" to which she replies "You don't know how big", however when it came to shoot it Mayall decided to partly improvise to make it more outrageous. The scene was also edited too as what was filmed showed Rik dipping it into a glass of red wine and it subsequently expanding before the penny drops and Rik walks off. The dunking scene was removed when the head of BBC comedy watched it prior to transmission and said it was a step too far and should be cut.
