One of the best Monster of the Week episodes and an X File that was screaming out for a Darren McGavin cameo. The romantic and tragic notion of events far in the past continuing to reverberate in the present draws you in. Watching the relationship between Scully and Doggett form is both fascinating and surreal as you are so used to the Mulder and Scully dynamic. The ancient local newspaper with the human-bat story on the front cover is a wonderful bit of fantasy and a Fortean's dream. What makes Patience so extraordinary is that it is far better than it has any right to be, any series that loses it's leading man should drag itself to the side of the road to die, not produce something like this. A strong, strong episode.
