With his main informant dead and the X Files shut down, Mulder finds himself reassigned to regular FBI duties. He is convinced he's being followed and his conversations listened in on. Mulder soon vanishes and heads to Puerto Rico where the giant radio communications dish at Arecibo was recently shut down. There he finds evidence and has a close encounter but Scully has tracked him down and they manage to escape just as the military arrives. Written by
Did You Know?
At about 13:10 into the episode, Senator Matheson tells Mulder that "... in the next 4.5 million years, when the sun exhausts its fuel and swells to engulf the earth..." Is a mistake in scientific principle; one having nothing to do with the other. While it's most likely that life will end on the earth in approximately 4.5 billion years from now because of the heat being flung off in effort to use more dense materials to burn, it will no longer burn effectively, but the earth will not be engulfed for almost double that amount of time; an additional 7.5 to 8 million years from the time that life is no longer able to survive on the surface. Thus, what he's telling Mulder is both true and false. See more
While Mulder and Scully are escaping Arecibo, the landscape seen is an alpine evergreen forest. There are no alpine evergreen forests in Puerto Rico. See more
