In answer to the previous review the episode was filmed in Porthtowan, Cornwall. The Beach Hotel was since demolished and a block of seaside apartments built on the site, each one selling for around a third of a million. Prior to its demolition it was also featured in a property show where the owners were trying to sell it to move abroad. The surf board workshop has also since been demolished and replaced with a house.

Now I have a question: anyone know the title of the song being played in the background at the scene in the surfboard workshop with DI Lane (Helen Masters) questioning the owner?

Surf and Smack

This is a surfing story. Surfer have rubbed the locals the wrong way, but feel righteous in their protest against water pollution. We have several issues addressed here: heroin, possible murder, betrayal, false witnessing, etc. It's a decent episode but I'm not sure the greatest surfing happens in that part of the country. I could be wrong.

Brilliant Episode

I liked this episode a lot. Does anyone know where this one was filmed? I liked the beach and the cliff top restaurant! Its one that has you thinking and you guess the wrong guy and will the girl survive? I tried looking for the area where the long pier showed and the boat with BM is Brixham, but not sure if its round that area. Shame the series didn't carry on, but not sure why the series finished. Does anyone know? Glad to see Potter got the girl at last, being as Doug always has a dig at him and gets him to do the dirty jobs. A lot of the old Police series stopped, but no more have replaced any. So if anyone else is a Wycliffe fan, can you please let me know where Breaking Point was filmed?

Breaking Point

Cornwall acquired a reputation for surfing back in the 1990s. It also attracted the hip and happening crowd.

A young woman is found with serious injuries and a heroin overdose. She is in hospital in a coma and it cannot have been an accident.

Wycliffe discovers that the local newspaper has acquired information that was never released to the public.

The local surfers are targeted given the possible links to heroin dealing. The woman's ex boyfriend cannot recollect what happened at the evening she was injured but believes that he is the culprit.

DI Lucy Lane has issues with her boyfriend, the journalist who is getting the scoops.

The surfing is window dressing. There are some good scenes of restaurants with excellent views. Just how can you afford an establishment like that? A question Wycliffe might well ask.

It was an episode where it was easy to guess the culprit and the one leaking information to the press.
