Dr. Lee tells Danny that the neurologist examined Agnes's brain scans, which revealed "enlarged caudate nuclei." He tells Danny that it is indicative of Huntington's disease. First, in patients with HD, the caudate nuclei typically are atrophied (wasting away and therefore smaller) rather than enlarged. Second, although the doctors may have suspected HD due to the tremors, HD typically is confirmed by genetic testing, which reveals more specific information about HD. Atrophy in the caudate nuclei can occur over a number of different disorders and would not be enough to confirm HD. See more
