Jonathan Banks mentions Mick Jagger when quoting the famous Rolling Stones song title "You Can't Always Get What You Want" referring to Mel not being able to purchase the baseball team. In 1992, Banks would co-star with Mick Jagger in Freejack.
At the batting cage Mel says; "There is no joy in Mudville." This is a line from the poem "Casey at the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in the Year 1888," or just "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest Lawrence Thayer about a confident baseball player that strikes out. The final line of the poem is; "But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out."
