When West goes to visit Crane he is playing with an electric toy train set. The earliest electric trains, when not powered by batteries, were most often run on three-rail tracks. Two-rail tracks did not come into use until the early years of the 20th century. In 1874, model trains were usually powered by clockwork springs. Unlike the various mad scientists and their anachronistic inventions that became the trademark of The Wild Wild West, Crane is merely one of the victims of Dr. Loveless.
The toy Loveless uses as a "Trojan horse" is a product created by Remco in the early 1960s called "The Big Parade". It consisted of three toy soldiers attached to a drum, they marched and had sound effects. The toy was made of styrene plastic. Styrene didn't exist until the post WWII years.
